Beautiful picture of the of the Monarch on the teasel. The black background brings out the colors on the butterfly and the teasel. Excellent focus and sharp . details. Nice composition . Colors and tones are natural. Great job. Good luck in the photo contest.

Lee Ann,
A very beautiful picture of the blooming Teasle with the Monarch butterfly alighted upon it the sunlight glowing around it from behind creating a halo of light against the dark background. Beautiful composition framing and lighting taken with superb camera techniques and sharp focus.

Hi, Lee Ann. Did you say you raise monarchs? I think they eat only milkweed. I have not gotten around to planting some here. Monarchs are my favorite butterfly. Populations of all butterflies are greatly reduced. I painted a couple of monarchs once. http://www.pamusart.com/PaintingCloseups.php?ArtID=4200000

They are so beautiful. You caught the thistle releasing pollen. Six stars for this beautiful photo. Good luck in the contest Thank you for sharing

Wow. Keep up the good work. I am severely disabled and can?t garden. How much care does milkweed need? Maybe I?ll hire a nursery to plant it

This is so pretty! Both the monarch and this very interesting teasel plant! I like the position of the butterfly on the plant , I see good detail on both the butterfly and the plant, the black background pushes them for a for a good look.
Well focused, the image is clear, exposure is well managed, the colors and tones are gorgeous and they appear natural.
Well composed and presented!

The thistle seems aglow, almost as if engulfed in yellow flames. The Monarch appears among the flaming thistle in a softer glow. The refinement of detail is impressive. The dark background emphasizes the thistle and the butterfly considerably. The tall amplifies the shape of the thistle. The composition is well balanced.

That's a beautiful picture indeed,LeeAnn!
Monarchs are classy looking butterflies to begin with and this one, perched on that pleasantly exotic looking bud and placed against that warm black background, looks Great!
