I know the hierarchy of the animal kingdom, but this makes me very sad. That young elephant has a mother out there that will be mourning her baby's life. I'm kind of glad the lion is having difficulty eating the elephant. Besides all of that, you came upon a very good photo. You have so many exotic pictures. Are you actually out in the wild when you took this photo? If so, you are one brave man.

    thanks a lot Mary; this is nature: you eat and you are eaten.

Wow what a great captured shot. A bit scary for me. You seem to be very close. The lion doesn't look very happy that you are interrupting her lunch. Well framed. great interest. You have definitely captured the personality of this big girl.
Well done!

Interesting and unusual closeup of lion eating, don't get too near!! Good colours and fine background details. This might benefit from a heavier cropping on the left, the body is distracting me slightly and I feel the shoulders, head, and carcass would have a stunning impact especially that the rib cage is an opposite in colour. The overall however is interesting and shows good techniques in the capture.

It's cool to see a lion in its natural element. This photo shows the raw nature of the predators, showing their predatory side in its full glory, preying upon the animal. The expression of the lion seems like he's guarding his hard earned meal, and a necessary part of life to survive for itself and its kin.

Wow! This is an incredible capture, nice close look at the lion as she tries to eat the remains of the elephant.
This is well focused, the image is clear, exposure is well managed, colors and tones appear natural. Well composed showing the circle of life!
Well presented! Best wishes to you in this contest!

    thanks a lot again Pat for your lovely comments;
    unfortunately, people on this site make no difference between a lion sleeping in a zoo and something unusual in the wild;

A very nice close up. I like the speckled light and the tasteful composition that plays down the grizzly aspect of the scene. Good luck in the contest.

Ver nice entry for this contest. The details are sharp, clear and action has been captured very well. The angle is just perfect to get that open mouth and teeth. The shading and sun spots cant be avoided on a shot like this. Excellent job.

An interesting if somewhat gory photo of the Lion gnawing his way through the poor unfortunate young Elephant, who will fill the stomachs of many! Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.
