Blurry , or not it gives depth and feeling to the image. Also it seems to be saying, if you can do it, I can do it too. The dark water helps bring out the delicate color of the birds. Perfect framing, sharp clear image. Well done.

I like how this photo makes me have a sense of wonder: is that lake frozen or are the birds so talented at walking on top of the water? I like how the reflections of the birds in the water bring out an ethereal character about them, like they're on the march for some important mission. the brownish color of the water actually seems to reinforce the title of this photo, giving it a more serious official feeling, as if these birds are indeed on some military mission to capture some prey or collect resources.

Cute title,it looks as though the newcomer is trying to imitate the first bird by mimicking it's steps. Tandem marching! Both look like gulls,the focused one appears to have been banded. They almost look like they are walking on top of the water;like the subtle reflections and the dark background nicely sets off the pair!

Photo bombed nicely in this image of the two birds wading across the water. Focus is good on the bird in rear and the bird in front shows movement well. Good composition.

It is hard to predict what the autofocus will do in a case like this. Most of the time mine will focus on the closer subject. A very nice shot that caught the marching birds at just the right time.

    many thanks mike;
    on my camera, I can chose the area where I want a sharp focus; I usually use the center; therefore, what is outside will not be sharp: before cropping, only the one in the bg was in the center;

Very cool! They look like two dancers practicing their routine in their habitat <3.
Good offset framing! I don't really notice that the foreground seagull is out of focus. Great capture!

Looks like they are practicing synchronised walking! Or imitating goose steps. Interesting capture. Impressive light and shadows. Good effort!

Your explanation is very good and it also rhymes. Just wondering if you were counting cadence as the two seem to be in step. Nice soft reflections add depth. Nice presentation and story.

Fred,
A beautiful picture of this pair of Black headed Gulls in their winter plumage (During the breeding season their crown feathers are dark brown/black) standing in the shallows both standing on their right legs the left poised to take the next step as they search the water for their next meal. Did you notice the one behind has an identity ring on it's left leg? Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
Susan

Not too bad the blurring. I have an app on my phone PIXLR this allows sharpening very easily on any given area...there is a free version and it works on my laptop too.
You are very prolific with your posts I can hardly keep up but all are interesting and give me pointers just by looking to up my learning curve. I can see what visually works and this duck coming into the shot is not a bad thing, especially as they are walking in tandem with a soldier leg lift . Another amusing shot you are a natural with.
