This is very beautiful ! I love the way the colors are arranged in the sky, the deep pink tones with the gold clouds and the dark clouds above , I like the way these clouds are forming an arch above the structure. I like that the structure is silhouetted against the sunrise sky and the gold clouds behind it, the colors on the water are beautiful and I like the golden grasses in the foreground adding depth to your scene. Well created, arranged and presented! Best wishes to you in this contest!

Thank you Pat, this is a real place, the structure is an old Abbey that was a fortress too. St Cuthbert's first Christian seat, where it all began in Europe.

Gee, for a first painting it really emanates the character Of the scene you describe in your notes. I really like the vibrancy of the colors and the nice foreground flora. Good luck in the contest.

Lovely water style, and colours here, Is it me or does the horizon look like its tilting, I feel like I am going to fall off lol,, or perhaps the way you took the photo of this art piece maybe?

Lol no it's not tilting I noticed it too but its the causeway angle that gives the impression. I suppose I could cheat and rephoto it at an angle. The real oil painting looks ok as the details are more prominent. Thanks for your review. Much appreciated.

I love this, as soon as I saw it I thought of the North Country. When I was teaching at a London College, as all educational facilities in England have to, I had to teach ANNE FRANK. No disrespect to book or her, but this is not a proper history book as it is subjective, nor is it a proper English teaching book and I had a class full of none English people of every variety, who did not need to learn to hate all Europeans,/we were part of the EU back then/ so I asked my line manager if I could use Wuthering Heights instead which I felt was eminently suitable. Colleges are a better place to teach because Managers are more open to common sense than School Heads. He agreed. This painting instantly put me to mind of it. By the way, I walked into my line managers class a few weeks later and he was showing them a film of Wuthering Heights. I think sometimes our earlier works, before we become too aware of what some people like, is often better as it is more natural and spontaneous. We forget that somewhere out there, there will be someone who will like anything we paint. This is glorious!

What a lovely review so happy you liked it. I agree that in education the teaching programmes are heavy weighted and the powers that be decide what we will learn. This in turn results in people having certain beliefs that they believe are truths and are preconditions. Anne Frank was a terrible story but to teach it at a vulnerable age you are right could create hatreds that are out of context. GB has been a great country in the medium of power, wealth and advancement but at what cost????

and twists and turns to try to be so today instead of settling down to a new way of being and trying to have a little honesty. actually it is not so much the ENGLISH establishment which insisted all schools, colleges, etc HAVE to teach Anne Frank, it was some of the German Jewish Lords in the Lords. It is forgotten, as they are all very wealthy, that England is a European country and the main fight with Germany was as competitors and that the business with the jews was magnified because of their general immorality, especially when Germany was down and out. The old Jews of Hollywood all agreed: I quote: we asked for it in a way and add to that the intollerable French pressure for one hundred years, but no one bothers with real history, only money making stories.

You have a lot of insight about matters that as you say are almost whitewashed away in favour of successful negotiation of nations. Not a lot we can do.

Great artists notes. I can see why this has such memories for you. THAT is what is important.

I like the rudimentary looks of this scene as it gives a charm that a highly finished and polished work of art is often too much and leaves little for the imagination to wander through.

A wonderful entry for the contest and I wish you all the best in the voting ~ Steve

I love this painting. I love also the motion in the painting. I also love the colors. It almost reminds me of the stormy evening. I know it's a sunrise. .Keep it up.
