A six stars shot Allan, but I just used my last one. I like so much the ferns at this stage, and you have pictured this one so well. I like the softened one in the background because it adds Depth to the photo, and the one in the foreground is standing out in an excellent way.
The Focus is spot on and Sharp showing such Clear and well defined details in every part of the fern, and the exposure is Perfect.
I also like the format you have cropped the photo into and the placement of the fern off to the left. A truly lovely and well taken photo With an excellent DOF, and I wish you Luck With the contest.

This is beautiful Allan, it's simple yet elegant, I love fiddlehead ferns and the way they open by uncurling both in their stems and in the fronds . This is a nice placement of the fern on the left, I appreciate the close up allowing such a good look at how the fern opens. This is of course, well focused, this fern is sharp and clear, exposure is good, the color is natural. I like the way you pulled this fern into focus leaving the one in back to the right allowing a good sense of how the ferns grow.

This is a great choice for the contest. The way you captured the uncurling fern front gives it the appearance of an animal. I can almost see it opening. The soft focus of the front in the background that is further unfolded is like the promise of the featured frond. This would have worked well in the green contest as well.
