I like the subject matter. A great lover of dragonflies :) but I find the red and the shadow, a bit harsh for the dragonfly to really stand out here and star.
The purple flower is lovely :) Nice and sharp so you can see the 'furry hairs' of it. And I like you can see some of the detail in the wings.
You don't say what camera you use but the flower seems to be sharp, but not the dragonfly. Perhaps using a lower f-stop to really get a blur of the background so it isn't so harsh, may help for it to stand out? Also, the left wing is cut off, which jars the feel to it. Maybe standing back a little so you can get the full dragonfly? All the best for the competition :)

A beautiful picture of this Dragon fly wings outspread resting on the wild pink Geranium searching for small tasty insects on the plant. the light gleaming on it's gossamer wings. The scarlet background makes a beautiful contrasting backdrop. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Spectacular initial impact with this shot. I immediately thought this was a 6* until I noticed that the cropping was too tight and it cut off the tip of the left wing and tail of this Dragonfly. It is a beautiful presentation with superb clarity and focus. Lighting is well managed, imagery is wonderful.
