I think this is quite remarkable. It has a very strong impact. I love the colour combination and considering you did this in the dark am in awe of your intricate patterns and fine details. The framing works very well. I love working with watercolour pens too. Good luck in the competition.

Getting frustratingly bored at the moment plus so tired yet not doing much. I will push myself today. Hope you are faring well also. This is blind so I am not using names.

Ones perception leads to this abstract piece of art leaning more to a flowery one which would correlate more towards summer art rather than a burning branch although I suppose the extreme heatwave in the summer months could subsequently set such alight. The palette is really something and eye catching with those deep reds and vermillion

Thanks very much for your kind review. Yes, we had fires all over the year last year here in California, USA starting in May!

What a wonderful work of art here. The reds are dramatic and instantly capture the attention upon first view. The somewhat abstract look is very appealing. Well done and best of the best in the contest ~ Steve

Thanks Steve -- I had hesitated to post this as my claim seemed so unlikely. However, after some reviews started coming in, I expanded my caption to read this way.... (I hope not to upset some of the innocents on FAR, lol) Crayon and watercolor pen sketch done at night in the extreme dark during a fire and power cut off. Actually, I had no candles, no flashlight nothing; just the merest suggestion of light coming through an open door from outside. It was evening so I doubtfully selected the colors while there was still a suggestion of daylight. I did not know how well I had created what I did until the next day. It was very nerve wracking but gave me something to do.... Thankfully crayon can be felt with the tips of the fingers. The frame and outer red background I later created in Adobe Illustrator. I think that due to my strange background growing up in isolated Baja Sur "at effect" of my doomsday parents who directed me to do a lot of projects at night away from the scorching heat helped developed a sense in the dark that I must still retain. My best guess anyway... These projects mostly involved pack trips to fetch water for "Camp." I tell myself that it is interesting what unlikely skills a human can develop under the right conditions...

You must have had candles. What a great use of your time! I love the colors and the way they are blended together so well. The addition of the bright red from illustrator is a great choice. It is so frustrating when you lose electricity, but you found the bright side!!

That is amazing! I'm as so glad you gave me the backstory. After reading it, I can say I respect your project even more.

oh what a comical image I have while you were creating this..firemen running everywhere trying to attack the fire and there you would be with your crayons and paper dodging all the firemen and hoses like you were playing football...one of the firemen holler at you "You need to stay back!" but you hang in there and holler "NO I CANT! IM TRYING TO CREATE A MASTERPIECE!!!" ROFLMAO!!! you need to be careful with to much information cause you never when a cartoonist is around to see your notes. we see thing in a lil different light! you know like a funny one..wink..lolololol. well its colorful . interesting on how you did it. (personally I stay away from the flames but that's me) the depth is good. the shape and design is balanced and eye interesting to the viewer. oh btw you could have put this in a oven if you have a gas stove, but I bet you like to live a life of danger. wink. good job overall.

Thank you much Mark -- maybe an inspiration for one of your series, lol... Which flames would you stay away from? The background? There wasn't much air in the actual experience and firemen were in short supply -- mostly black and red in the air and I tried black/gray around the branches but didn't work for me with this particular creation...

This is an amazingly beautiful creation you have made, with crayons? Fantastic. Vibrant, exciting, and lovely. You don't even need to add a border as this is perfect on it's own. Great work.

We had several huge forest fires here for most of our summer last year, I certainly hope that doesn't happen again this coming summer.
This is a beautiful piece, it shows the summer leafed trees engulfed in flames with the flames in background too. I like the way the smoke is surrounding the tress. Well created with good details and well chosen colors. Well presented and I like the frame you finished it with. Best wishes to you in this contest!

This is so beautiful. I really love this. I am curious as to how you were able to use crayon and watercolor pen to give it this textured look! It also looks like a cherry blossom branch in a way! Its crawling from one corner to the next. Its elegant that way. Keep up the great work!

This is an imaginative and skillful piece of work. The detailing on the branches shows fierceness and the devastation. Interesting creation of the background. Your frame gives it an oriental feel!

The cascading composition of the branches and glow around them is very captivating. The contrasting colors are striking and well blended for this effect. Good luck in the contest!
