Frankly I do not understand the foreshortening in this image. My limited understanding is that to create a illusion of a objects receding into a distance.Like railway lines etc! Be that as it may I like this extreme closeup shot for its clarity, light and composition. Good luck!

    seshadri_sreenivasan,

as I understand it: "In Fine Arts or in this case a photo. the objective is to reduce or distort (parts of a represented object that are not parallel to the picture plane) in order to convey the illusion of three-dimensional space as perceived by the human eye: often done according to the rules of perspective. to abridge, reduce, or contract; make shorter."

So, Does the photo show depth and perspective, is the question ? For me it does. I guess the other aspect is it a good photo, as far as lighting, clarity, interesting subject, etc. are concerned ? for me again it does.

on this image; if you come in from the lower left side the kale stalk, it takes you into the image and gives the illusion of depth and perspective as it recedes into the background away from the viewer. do you see it, the bug walking away from the camera lens adds to that effect.

thank you for your time and comments.

As far as the light, clarity, sharpness is concerned the picture looks very good. But for my eyes the 3D effect does not stand out prominently. The picture has depth but not enough to sit up and take note of. The bug does make the pic interesting!

thank you for responding, to my reply. for me it actually does, the stalk is projecting towards the viewer or observer, I will admit, cat a not traditional angle.

I guess so. I reread the rules of contest a couple times and still did not come away with a clear understanding of what they wanted. This is certainly a fine shot with great foreground detail in the kale and the insect is a very nice addition. Good luck in the contest.
