This gray heron is posing so nicely for you and you were able creatively to capture it with the reflection in the water as well. Great focus, natural colors and overall presentation!

The image the composition does what you intended it shows the wing span of the heron. You captured the wings nicely with enough clarity of focus so that you can see the feathers. For the most part the image works.
The one thing that is a detector, a major distraction in the flow is the reflection in the water where that odd turquoise coloration there.
it would have rcieved a5 rtaing but fro that.

A real classic heron shot Fred you can see every wing feather the diffused light is perfect but what makes this a little different is the reflections of the heron!

ah..my mistake ,the way the image came across was that the black (I can only assume is a waste paper bin) blended in with the wing tip so that it appeared that the wing was cut off,so my apologies.It was only when I enlarged the picture that it became apparent..still a shame that the bin is there as it becomes an issue for the overall composition.

Fred,
A beautiful picture of the Grey Heron wings outspread as it takes off from your lake exposing it's dark flight feathers & wingspan the reflections on the lake's surface are an added bonus. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.
