Some of the prettiest and most unusual flowers I have seen are from cacti. This is an excellent example of the bold and dramatic colors that are often seen.

It is ironic that these beautiful flowers are often only accessible to insects and certain birds. Humans can get stuck and painfully so.

Great image here Lucien ~ Steve

    steve,

    Good morning,
The hardest part for me always, is shooting in harsh direct sun light, like in the desert. I agree cacti, do have some of the most amazing flowers designed by nature to attract the right creature to help with pollination.
Thank you once again for your time and comments on my photo. all are appreciated
    Take care, cheers,
    Lucien

Very nice photograph of the flower and budding ones. It looks like some sort of cactus plant. Good focus and lighting. All colors are natural. Sharp detail. Well done.

A beautiful scene that is artfully presented. The buds in the background are attractive and the color of the flower is excellent. Best of luck in the contest.

Beauty indeed Lucien the vividness on the reds are very powerful that makes you look straight at the flower with no real distractions except for the white highlight on the bottom left which looks like a piece of paper and takes you eye away from the main subject which is a shame so I would have got rid of that before taking and for this reason alone I will take half a star away the letterbox format works with the subject and the shadows are not totally under exposed this is a bonus because that could have given a black blob on the bottom right! Composition and detail are spot on!

    Adrian,

    Good morning,
The hardest part for me always, is shooting in harsh direct sun light, like in the desert. Unfortunately that was a small rock and it was there and the spins made it difficult to remove because I had no way of getting close, because of eh needles.

Thank you once again for your time and comments on my photo. In addition, the suggestions on ways to make it better, I will keep them in mind on my next shot.
    Take care, cheers,
    Lucien

Profound notes...
Who would have thought this will come out aesthetically well despite the surrounding prickly thorns & busy backdrop?!?
I guess most artist won't dare to shoot it this way...
Impressive placement of this main subject in a letterbox framing...
Nice illumination casting soft highlights and subdued shadows...

An out of focus backdrop would have shown the subject more visually appealing is it will have a great focal attention...

Having said that, this is still a unique composition!
