amazing pigeon, totally unexpected. I am not sure I care for selective breeding though. How does he fly with all that cumbrage around his rear end. Must cause difficulty. I have learnt something with this!

    Renate,
    thank you, based on your artwork and comments I understand why you would not like selective breeding.
    they are not met to fly a lot, they are more for show.
    thank you for having looked and then leaving me your review it is appreciated .
    take care,

    I agree with breeding out bad points.. but very carefully done by science, but not just for show! Nothing to do with you of course, just something I feel quite strongly about,

What an interesting and unusual pigeon. It looks like it has had a perm to make it so curly. A good clear and focused image allowing us to see the details of the whole pigeon really well. Well captured and presented Lucien.

A most unusual pigeon Lucien reminds me of the Afro hairstyle that was fashionable years ago. The colors are good and your focus is sharp on the eye.

I have never seen a bird like this. I think that if I did, I would be hallucinating. The variety of textures on this one bird is ridiculous. Can he actually fly? Excellent work as always.

    mamamary,
    good morning.
    Their is a variety of them and their main function is to look pretty and please their owners. Most show birds can fly a little, but not like the city pigeons you maybe used to seeing.
    The pigeons in most of my drawing are racing pigeons, they are breed for flying, like the birds in my books.

This is a very interesting post! I have never seen or heard of show pigeons. The focus and clarity are excellent showing his beautiful curls. I enjoyed your narrative also.

I thought you took the wig of an old lady and put it on a common pigeon; lol;
a great find of course, never seen before; veey sharp details as usual; f course, would be much nicer to see him out of the cage;

Interesting, why anyone would want to make a show pigeon is beyond me, a little crazy looking for me, its like the dogs they create that have no function but to look pretty, eg, the Pomeranian, lol,,I would have taken the photo to have more room on the left, I feel for anything that has to stay in a cage, pretty or not

This is very interesting and you have taught me about a show pigeon. I never seen anything like this. so I take it they put them on a perch to be judged?

    Freelo,
    good morning.
    Seeing how you asked.
    No, they place all of the same breed that they like and then the judge reviews them for d form, and do they meet the breeds main attributes and he down selects from there until he has the best based on his judgement. Each breed seems to have judges that are experts in that breed. And of course there are a few that are considered experts for all breeds, but from my experience those types of judges are limited.

This is one weird looking Pigeon and looks as though he's had a fight with the groomer haha.You appear to really like your pigeons and it has been good that you have shared your images with us here on the FanArt base.

    Neil,

    Good morning,
    you are welcome.
    Thank you once again for your time and comments on my photo.

    I used to fly racing pigeons , or racing homers and they are one of my favorite breeds. Most of my artwork in, "events in the daily life of a pigeon" use them as the subject matter.

    Take care, cheers,

What an unusual bird! I would think all those frills would be problematic for flying. About the photo: the colors are nicely saturated and you got a catchlight in its eye. The focus is clear, too. Thanks for sharing. It's been a frilling experience! ;-)
