Another beautiful picture of this old timer pigeon. The composition with the natural coloring of the bird is well done. Details and overall image pleasing.

This is a wonderful shot of strange looking pigeon. It looks more like a hen!:) You have framed it well. The light and shadows, colours and the composition have worked out well. Good effort!

I like the stance and the puffed out pose of this Modena Show Pigeon.
Your focus is soft and details are list on the black hood of his head making it difficult to see the eye. White and black birds are the most challenging to Photograph under any light condition.
My experience is one must shoot in full manual.
Red-Winged Black birds are a challenge to capture because they are mostly all black.
The most important setting is center meter. You focus on the birds eye using center weight meter. You keep your shutter speed between 1/6000 or a little higher. f/stop at F/5.6 and ISO at 500 with Kelvin Scale @ 5000k all color temps @ zero.
Exposure bias you keep at zero or raise to plus side.
If you had to shoot thru the cage you need a long zoom so you force your lens to move beyond the cage and focus on the bird, making the bars disappear like magic.
Photography is understanding light and always having the right settings in order to chase that light. The only way one can get a razor sharp photo is to use manual settings. When you shoot in anything other than manual, your camera relies on factory settings.
Auto white balance will always sacrifice speed for light.
I force myself to shoot in the rain and bright noon sun in order to learn how to handle flat light or bright light.
It's a nice shot, but the clarity and correct white balance/ exposure are needed to show off this bird.
;)

    Sange,

Thank you for your time spent looking at my photo and then leaving me your thoughts and comments on it. And the tips on how to improve the shot.
I appreciate all of that. It actually looks in focus and then it looked different on the site, tried to correct for it, but this is the best it looked.

FIne looking bird, even with its black cape. That white chest really makes it, but its black eyes are hidden within its black hood. What an odd comment for someone from Java!! I once nearly married an Afghani long ago, but his older brother forbade it as he had had a run in with a german woman. Arn't they very compliant? Too independantly thinking and acting. Well, no one could be more different than Germans and Italians. We all have mental pictures of peoples, but if whites say what they think, it is racism, not an opinion, others may say as they please I have found in my many travels teaching in other countries.
I suppose they get fat when they stop flying and hunting for their food, just as humans do!

A very good nature shot posted here! Your fine, full and off-centre composition grants us an enjoyable view of your, to me, strange looking pigeon. Like the feather detail. Exposure and sharpness are OK. Nicely taken!

A beautiful bird and a very good shot of him. The colors are great and there is good detail in both the white plumage and the dark head. I might crop a tiny bit off the left to eliminate that half a bar in his cage.

Hello Lucien, This is a great shot. I have seen many pigeons, but I have never heard of the Modena. This caused me to check out the link you posted. Once again, an excellent shot, and thanks for sharing.

I kind of miss the feathers all over the feet. I do like the different colors that appear on each part of the body. The black head and tail, as well as the color combination on the wing. As usual, the photography is excellent.
