    liseworks,

    tahnk you for your review.
    a little history...
When I was taking my art classes, specifically my figure drawing classes, they would do these timed exercises (like 1 minute, 5 minutes up to 20 minutes) and have us draw the models and they demanded that their poses be accurate, their body and form be accurate as well. Therefore, I had a lot of practice, seeing things quickly and then capturing/rendering the basic shape. I still do that on a regular base when I am sketching in my sketchbook, like when I am waiting for a flight or at a doctor?s office.

In doing the rose drawing (sketch) you see here, that is what I did, the light lines are the basic shape of the rose, its form, pedals, etc. Then I started to render in the tonal values with, the pedals, leafs, and stem. I did not get as far as I wanted, but it is a good start.

Excellent entry. You can see very much it's a rose. Nice technical drawing with very natural shading that brings together the petal formation. It's very nicely angled with good balance and presentation.

Well done and you can definitely tell it is a rose half finished. Quite a different contest to join in and I can't imagine it would be very easy. It is great that you have lightly sketched all the rose then in the time limit been able to shad half of it. So good work!

Nice! Yes I can totally tell that it is a rose. Well done. You got a lot of details done in the 15 mins. I like the simplicity of the pencil look!

This is amazing for just 15 minutes of drawing (I cannot draw a stick man let alone something like this even given days to make the attempt). There is no doubt that this is a rose. I really like how the outer petals are very light, almost indistinct. Moving toward the center the lines and details become darker. In the center the shaded petals really stand out. That for me really makes this image. Maybe it is because you only had 15 minutes? If that is the case then it was great that you did not have more time, if that makes sense. It is wonderful just as it is.

Very well done and I wish you all the best in the contest ~ Steve

P.S. As this is a contest you might consider cropping up from the bottom to eliminate the bottom edge of the paper in the lower right corner.

This drawing is very well rendered. The lines are firm and free flowing capturing he contours of a full bloom. The shading is just fine. Overall a very good effort.Good luck!

    seshadri_sreenivasan,

thank you for your comments on the sketch, it is appreciated.
I did a lot of them, short timed sketches in my figure drawing class.
    Have a nice day.

Yes, it is a rose. That much in 15 minutes, not bad. It is rather unique and enjoyable to look at. I can see the rapidly made lines and shading with the attempt to get as much form definition in as possible to describe the object. I assume you are right handed. This is a nice little sketch. I always hated the timed exercises. Reasons for my five star vote.

Thank you and you are welcome. P.S. The strokes in the petals revealed the right hand use.

    Jirinalnspire,
I was a little to ambitious, in what I thought I could do in 15, the minutes went by faster then I thought.
Still with that being said, I liked what I accomplished.
Thank you for your review, it is very much appreciated.

Yes, it is hard to judge what you can achieve within time limits!
