    alissa webb,

yes, I guess I should finish the drawing. I have additional plans for the rose. Like a pointillism rendering.

I was a little to ambitious, in what I thought I wanted to do in 15, the minutes went by faster then I thought.
Still with that being said, I liked what I accomplished.
Thank you for your review, it is very much appreciated.

When I was taking my art classes, specifically my figure drawing classes, they would in that time frame ( like 1 minute, 5 minutes up to 20 minutes) and have their poses be accurate, their body and form be accurate as well. Therefore, I had a lot of practice, seeing things quickly and then capturing/rendering the basic shape. I still do that on a regular base when I am sketching in my sketchbook, like when I am waiting for a flight or at a doctor?s office.
In doing the rose drawing (sketch) you see here, that is what I did, the light lines are the basic shape of the rose, its form, pedals, etc. Then I started to render in the tonal values with, the pedals, leafs, and stem. I did not get as far as I wanted, but it is a good start.

I am amazed that you scratched this in just 15 minutes. I would need 15 hours to come up with something as clean and refined as your drawing. I like how you show the fall of light with the shading in fine pencil lines. The green leaves and stem in darker stronger black show where the blossom stars. The soft lines in the background indicate that this is a scratch to be used later for a future artwork.

    cleo85,
I was a little to ambitious, in what I thought I wanted to do more in 15, the minutes went by faster then I thought.
Still with that being said, I liked what I accomplished.

    You're most welcome :o)
You accomplished a lot in just such a little time as 15 minutes.

Thank you for the information. I am an amateur. I never got art classes. All I know I learned by myself from books and looking at the art of the masters. :o)

try a few of the time sketching exercises, like take a timer, set it for 5 minutes and try to draw the item. very important at first all you are trying to do is capture the basic shape, form, structure, in a outline drawing. once you get that down and you are happy with what you did, add time and then add rendering/shading.
It will help you see things better, quicker, but it takes time and practice.

    have fun trying it. cheers.

Thank you for the advice. I try, but my reception is crocked because I am blind on my left. I always need too long time to adjust my reception in my mind to the right proportions.

An honest piece of sketch work and just unfortunate that you ran out of time as I can picture the finished product as you add depth to your piece through more tonal control.I like the intended structure of your piece.
