Lucien,
A colourful picture of this symbol flower of California bathed in bright sunshine, the petal in the foreground lacks details while the others show great details. Beautiful composition framing and bright lighting. Taken with care & excellent techniques..

    Susan,

    Lucien,
Apart from the petal in the foreground the Poppy is shown i great detail including the pistil & stamens in the centre.
I must remember to sow some seeds in my Garden for next year they grow well here in Dublin.

The color of this Poppy simply Jumps off the screen. The isolated flower immediately captures the attention and holds it demanding to be further explored. The negative space add such emphasis to the accenting subject.

Nicely done and I wish you all the best in the judging ~ Steve

    steve,

thank you for your support of my photograph and me, it is greatly appreciated.
thank you also for the well wishes for the photo in the up & coming contest.

Do you think the center looks a little soft?

    Stay safe and take care.

The central part of the flower (Stamens, etc.) do not seem to be in sharp focus. The petals also lack the crisp sharpness highlighting the veins in the petals. I thought you had purposely given the flower a somewhat soft look for effect. The sharp background grasses tend to accentuate the soft look of the flower. Again I am not sure what you intension was. Still a nice image ~ Steve

    Steve,
thank you for your answer, next time I will try to explain my intentions better. my main focus on the poppy was the richness of the colors, it was a little sharper in the camera's lens, but I could not get that to happen when I posted it here on FAR.

thank you again for your time.
    take care.
    Cheers,

The poppy is one of my favorite flowers, it's amazing to see the different types of poppies . I love the warm orange/ yellow tones of this poppy, it is standing out from the greenery in a wonderful way, when I shoot flowers, I focus on the center, here the center detail is a bit soft in focus, looking at the petals, I see a loss of detail due to the very bright sunlight . This would be better if you had compensated for the brightness in your exposure settings, another way to do this would be to stand over the flower to shield it from the sun. It's a nice placement in the frame and well composed to allow a good sense of how this flower grows and it's location.

    Alaskapat,

thank you for your support of my photograph and me, it is greatly appreciated. Sometimes no matter how hard you try it happens, the center seems a little out of focus when I posted it here, however, in the cameras lens it looked perfect.

I am pleased, other then that one little misstep, you like this piece.
Yes, your advise I usually follow, but in this case I took a chance because I wanted the contrast in colors, within the flower itself and also the negative space.

    Stay safe and take care.

Is this image orange? It seems to appear yellow but I
see orange in the flower in the shadow of the petal. As
I have learned over the years of taking many flower photos, won contests in other sponsored websites,
that flora images are always
more authentic taken out of the sunlight...it distorts!
It looks like you took this on a Sunny day, and hence that it why I see the yellow...
I also think the center could be more defined. Best wishes in the contest!

Those vivid orange and yellow colors really jump out especially with that contrasted background of the grass and its dark shadows. It's awesome how there's no editing in this photo, that nature provides us with these vivid colors to admire. This flower looks like it's generating its own light source, with how you photographed it at this angle. Very aesthetically pleasing image in this small part of nature.

What a cheerful looking flower. But then Poppy is also a happiness bringing thing! You have framed it well. Complimentary colours, light and sharpness are very effective in creating a lovely capture. Thanks for sharing!
