The Mandarin duck is such a lovely bird with all the great colors, and I especially like how well the reflection from the bird is captured. I also like the low key, and how lovely the light is falling on the bird.
The mandarin duck is standing out sharp and well defined against the dark background, and it is clear and well defined details to be seen. The exposure is very good.
I also like the format you have cropped the photo into and the placement of the bird off to the right. A truly lovely and well taken photo Fred, and with a very good DOF.

This is one handsome dude. I have been love with the mandarin ducks for decades. I belonged to the Ducks Unlimited organization for many years. Many of the decoys and wood carvings were of the Mandarin duck. I happen to win one or two. Your lighting and the reflection are stellar. The black background helps pop his colors. Outstanding view.

A beautiful picture of this Mandarin drake swimming
on your lake's glass like surface on which it's reflection is seen. Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus. (while they go through the summer moult they are more grey than anything similar to the female. Her beak is black the male's is red. I saw them on the Dodder...I'm hoping to see the colourful drake soon)
