Excellent artistic image with gorgeous color and well defined detail. The story is one that I've not heard before but it goes so well with the art. Really beautiful work Daphne. Lovely color and narrative. Very well done!

Thank you so much! I hope all is well, Steve. I am working on another but keep getting derailed by other projects just now. Kennedy, the attorney who helped me with getting my father's birth certificate from Uganda required to apply for my UK citizenship, sent me some long myths including the creation myth. He also sent me in formation he starts out by explaining: This is Uganda?s historic site of Walumbe, or Ttanda Pits, otherwise known as the pits of death. Here there are hundreds of pits in the earth, ranging from 3 to 7 meters (about 10 to 23 feet) deep, that are said to be connected underground. They are also believed to possess a mysterious power.

this image really reminds me of the graphics of an incredible youtube series called 'simple history', it's truly one of the best shows iv'e ever seen. your picture has a vital and dynamic essence, that truly brings this culture to life; or at least showcases uganda to the western world.

Wonderful digital art painting that is so reflective of another culture. The details and viewer interpretation is open to an imagination. Detail, composition a and colors are great.

Quite an interesting and simultaneously amusing image posted here! The tortoise may look upset, but tortoise is not at all concerned. So maybe it is a case of false identification? Nicely created!

I like the simplicity of the composition. I think that the symbolic is understand even by young children. The painting illustrates the story perfectly. Hare shows features of a rabbit as well as of a monkey. Turtle is easy identified by his shell. The colors are harmonic and pleasant. The painting is well composed and framed. The composition is balanced.

What a cute creation! The simplicity of the subject, the bright colors and crisp lines make it a perfect illustration to the fun story that is included. Well done and enjoyable.

Thank you so much Mark. From here is a copy of my general reply. Thinking how to handle this project has been challenging. Kennedy Matovu is from an older generation that still remembers the actual Ugandan folktales so I asked him him to try and write some down for me as well. Unfortunately, the orphans who are under the semi protection of the Anglican church there that my grandparents were missionaries in do not know them anymore. And I read something kind of funny somehow, about how some native was swearing on the Holy Blood of Christ that he had seen a folktale spirit! It is all mixed up in Southern Mexico as well, Tonantzin/the Virgin Mary...

Brilliant story and illustration. Near the mark with some sentences in these politically correct days and social watchdog. 40 lashes wow. The Ugandans will undetstand but our Western kids will wonder. Yet they get their stories and thrills from gaming on comouters, much more violent. As with all fairy takes and yarns cruelty and messages are the key and you have managed both. The cruelty I have to say is justice in this case. Well written and very tallented digital work. Appealing and artistically beaitiful in its own right.

That's very intriguing. It's how folklore and takes evolve mixing truth from fiction and adding concept and attitudes of the day. A tangle web the humans weave...
