Grey Wagtail ~ Molacilla cinerea on the Dodder

This little chap with the gorgeous, gently coloured feathers look well fed. On fish possibly rather than worms. An absolutely delightful photo, of the river bank too. Really interesting little birds-they are resident all year in most parts of the UK and Ireland, winter visitors in others (from coastal areas of Yorkshire, down through East Anglia and much of Kent), and summer-only visitors in northern parts of the UK, such as Scotland. These summer migrants arrive in April and stay until September/October. In fact, they do not engage in migration in the ordinary sense i.e. simply form one place to another, but do so from an upland area (summer) to a lowland area (winter); known as "altitudinal migration".

    Renate,
Thanks a million for your detailed & interesting review on the Grey Wagtail that flitted off onto the next rock almost each time & focused on it. They remain her year round.

Your time is well spent as you consistently find these delicate small birds along the river. This specimen presents itself very well. The spotlight is on him and the rock to help us see his details and colors. The DOF is good and the top is framed again in sunlight edging the dark moving water. Nice shot.

I wonder what alerted the bird and caught its interest.
Your photo is well focused and exposed and has good depth. I appreciate the realism of color and light and the refinement of detail. Thee foliage in the background and the reflection in the water and on the wet stone are interesting. The bird is perfect placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

Great presentation of this grey Wagtail standing on the rock, observing the river flowing and choosing the right one to spent more time on. Wonderful details, colors and composition of this photograph.

This one is much better. Now the brightness offers us much more to see and admire. Like the birds soft and gentle colourings. Enjoyed the location too. Nicely done!

Pretty little bird ! I like it's ready position on the rock in the river, that yellow color really catches the eye! Well focused, clear image with good lighting. Colors and tones appear natural. I like the green plants growing near the rock too! Well composed and presented!
