The repeating patterns of the piles and the diagonal lines of the pier disappearing in the mist makes for a nice composition. You can never go wrong with fog in your image

I am not so sure the "U" in your title stands for a noun or an action, but I really like the photo. Especially because of your point of view with the fine leading lines, and also the mist over the water.
The photo is sharp with clear and well defined details to be seen in the pier, and I also think the exposure is very good.
The format and framing is perfect, and with the placement of the pier off to the right, it is a very fine balance in the composition. I think this is a lovely and well taken photo Brian, and with an excellent DOF; I wish you luck with the contest.

This is a great scene, love the fog rolling in from the ocean, the long beach of sand, the sturdiness of this pier is scene from underneath it, I like the perspective of the view, very nice and expressive at the same time
