This drawing presents a lot of challenges that you handled very well. The lines are showing details and his complete personality so nicely. Showing his tools to paint and your description are a bonus.

At first look I thought that this line art drawing was very cool. After reading that you used one continuous line is Amazing. I can draw a basic stick man but now I will challenge myself to do a basic stick man with one continuous line. Now that will be a challenge ; )

Great work here Brenda. An excellent entry for the contest and I wish you all the best in the voting ~ Steve

OH YA!!! I aint skeeed....well maybe just a little. I'll have you know I contacted a lady today who gives introductory lessons in water color art. I figure 'how bad can you mess up water colors'? If it is too bad I will 'accidentally' spill water (actually a beer) on it and say it was really good before the accident. LOL

I am going to give this a try Brenda. I may even send you a photo of one IF it is worth showing. Not sure when the lessons will start. I ANT SKEERD!! That's how the southern boys say scared.

That is good news that you are coming into art from a different angle watercolours are great you can make loose work or tight. I have took up sketching to extend my art into another area. Challenges are good so good luck, relax and enjoy. Can't wait to see your results.

That's very complimentary for you to say. It's the first time I did this properly. I do appreciate Your review and observations.

Brenda this is pretty cool and I do in fact see the Van Gogh likeness for sure. I think this was a clever approach to the line art. Was it hard to just do lines and no color. A challenge is always fun. Best of luck in the contest! A true contender!

Thank you for a very fine review. It was a challenge. Since lockdown I have been bored with my impessionism style and felt it an opportunity to study realism and take my art sonewhere else. So I am doing Andrew Tischler's Sketch Endeavour project. He is on You tube. Its all graphite sketching... however I needed to do something else in a freestyle so looked up exactly what Line Art is. Thats where I got the idea. It is great for concentation exercises as you have to look at the reference and your pen at the same time to get the contours then plan where to go for the details. It was fun. And yes I miss colour. I am a strong colour person and graphite and pens are a different element. But it's amazing what you can do with them. I am just finding that out.

This Van Gogh sketch is interesting. The fact that you did this continually is an act of talent, patience and determination in art. My one thought is perhaps the left cheek bone is a little exaggerated, but overall well done. I love the various lines throughout the art and the details of the facial features, cloak and pens. I never drew a continuous line this way.
You give me incentive to do line work again. But, I have done blind contour drawing. I don't know if you have done this type of drawing before, but I found it to be very exciting.
Nice tone throughout.
Good work. Nice to view.

Thank you for a truly great review and marking. So appreciated. Yes I agree the cheek is more pronounced than intended but its not something I could correct. It was a good exercise and I will do continuous line art again. Try it. I had not heard of contour art, can you advise, it sounds another challenge.

Your line art is impressive. The piece offers indeed a likeness of the famous painter. His sad expression is heartbreaking. The viewer imagines his emotions and thoughts. I like that you included his brushes and palette in your portrait. Your drawing is well composed and framed. Vincent van Gogh is excellent placed within the frame. The composition is balanced.

Wow! This is really good Brenda, a good likeness of Van Gogh, paint palette and brushes in front of him. Well shaped head and face , nice application of his hair and facial hair, well shown facial features and structure. I like also the way you show his jacket and collar.
This is a good entry for this contest, very best wishes to you!

you will probably win it..really! dont worry im not going to be in it..me a cartoonist and for almost 10 years here on FAR none of my line art was ever considered to be place in 1st thru 3rd..i reckon i just meet to ART standards..so this cartoonist is not gonna waste his time this year..the facial is great. the details is great. the shading is great. the depth is great. the creation is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. creative and awesome work overall.

Thank you. That is quite an accolade... I appreciate your comments but wait and see..... I often dont agree some that win other comps. But its all in the eye of the voter. Your work is exceptional and I can learn from your style without copying... i must see some line work from you. We dont always see who all the contestants are in the site comps.

"I'm having bad hair day!" And "cheap skate roller disco" just to mention a couple..no voters on this contest..it's strictly a committee vote .that is why I am truly surprised when I do win any kinda of contest. Just figured I would be competition in this contest but the committee don't think so..so I am not gonna be in this one..I'll come in the black and white contest . wink

We all have days like that. Rollercoastering. You have to do what you know works for you. I am out ojf my comfort zone at the moment by chouce thats why I took up intensive sketching a far reach from my impressionism.

Honey I'm always outside the box..I'm the guy who pushes it as far as I can .off all the things I do I don't meet that topic to their standards. The others I do..go figure..I made that comment from the beginning..me a cartoonist who starts out with line drawing before I add the colors and yet I never meet the standards to that topic only.. really the more I think of it ..it's kinda comical..wink

Kinda comical😁😂🤣😢😭... i often wonder if photographers are the biggest reviewers of our art and if so they will go for the more realistic posts and not the out of the box, stretching the limits art. There are certain boxes to tick with photos but art is an entirely different species. Hope your ad hair day is now shampoos xx
