This is great!! I love the pointillism. Shows great creativity. It's a small color pallet which is good. One can almost feel the breath and see the candle flicker. So "blind" means no one knows the name of who created it, correct?

thats correct..certain whiners feel that folks vote for the artist and not the work. so these member sponsored contest pacifies them..it has been a while but if sponsor a contest i would make it public view with artist names..folks do really vote on the work..thanks for the awesome review.

Hi there!
This is a wonderful depiction of somebody blowing out a candle! Your technique is so interesting. Having the black in the background really adds a lot of dimension and intrigue to the image. I love it. Thank you for sharing. And thank you for promoting ð???

half century experienced in working with these pens..in my young life i always wanted to have art lessons. in the 60's living in the middle of nowhere that wasnt offered. not even in school. my family viewed art as a hobby and not a trade. so at 12 i said i wanted to be a commercial artist..folks just laughed..then at 14 i applied at Memphis Academy of commercial arts and was accepted..my dad informed me since he knew a couple senators he had it set up for me go to West Point..i was already in military academy at the time(did 4 years so far) and this is what i forsaw..8 years of military academy 4 years of west point and 6 years as a commission officer before i could get out..that means i would be in the military for 18 years of my life before i can be a civilian..i turned it down..made dad mad..then im told to pay my own way thru collage..so i joined the army as an enlisted man..yep i pissed him off even further..he got over it in the long run..wink.. so my only teachers were Marvel, DC, Warren Publishing(eerie, creepy and vamperilla magazines) and Heavy Metal..then as i build my own confidence i started creating my own work and not copy..today this late in life why bother to take a class. i have no desire to work with any other medium and i have years more experience in ink than those teachers..so when folks ask me where did i study at i just tell them University of Hard Knocks! wink..lol. thanks Jewell for the great review.

Great pen work here. I like the the flame and how you created the glowing light effect on the face and the top of the candle. Great composition, and contrast. Awesome job!

Awesome!! I can recognise your artwork because it's just so distinctive- it can never get blind for me. I love your brilliant composition with just a part of a manly face lit up with the candle glow in its proximity!! All else is dark. I love the brilliance in bringing out those nostrils and broad open lips with a pout. Hats off to your incredible skills- six stars plus a standing ovation

This is such a appealing work. It catches you visually, and when the mind catches up and the light stays on, the details and the originality of the piece stand out.
I am confident that all those technical aspects are well covered.

You can get around the blind bit by just saying that the subject is Stevie Wonder. LOL. It is certainly an intriguing image no matter who the subject might be. Best of luck in the contest.

I think this is very cleverly done Mark, and I am impressed that you managed to finish it within two hours. You have indeed used the light in an excellent way, and if this had been a photo it would have been a low key one. Not so sure you can use that description when it comes to art.

The all black background and just showing the part of the face is very effective, and both the face and the candle is done paying very good attention to details.

The format and framing is perfect, and so is the placement of the candle and the face. I think this is indeed a clever and well done sharpie drawing.

Very Cool Mark! Love how you show just the part of the face that is lit by the candle! You show just enough so we know what's going on and yet is very intriguing to the eye of the viewer. You certainly didn't waste your time doing this! It would have been a great entry for the blind contest, though it wouldn't have been to hard to figure out who the artist was. I'm glad you decided to post it, even if it wasn't in the contest! Very Nicely Done! :o) Nancy

super idea- as always superbly drawn - what is 'blind'? You draw with your eyes, even though at Life Drawing we are sometimes told close your eyes and draw what you saw, and lots of people peep with one eye, it is just more than an artist can bear! Super piece of work.

nah..many folks piss and moan about that folks vote on the artist and not the artwork..so they make the entries only show the titles and not the artist..the whiners feel like it is fair that way..wahhhhhh...lol
