This is my first major watercolor of a flower.

An extremely colourful and radiant presentation of a single bloom. Well lit which offers clarity to the whole bloom and all petals are easily identified. Green background provides prominence to the bloom.

Wow good for you. Watercolors are not so easy to work with but you have made it look remarkable. Gorgeous work. Maybe just a little darkening between petals to delineate for more of a 3D effect. Very nicely done dear artist

Thank you. First time that was suggested, the darkening. But thank you just the same.

Stunning painting. I love the brilliance of the red. Good balance and composition. If this is one your earlier painting, I can't imagine the beauty of your other works,

Thank you kindly. It is one of my earlier paintings, watercolor. Appreciate your encouragement much and continued support.

Beautiful Glenna. Really rich colours for a watercolour! Would actually be keen to know the brand you use as my reds never become that deep in hue! Maybe it is layered deeply? Nice shadows in the rose and highlights set off the texture delightfully.
Best of luck for the competition.

Keep creating,

Thank you for your wonderful and encouraging comments and best wishes. I did this one year back when getting into watercolor as I saw the photograph a photographer friend gave me. I need to get back into watercolors as soon as I can, along with pastels. I think I may have layered with darker browns for the shadows, but it mostly was a one-setting (though I may or may not have completed the painting in more than one setting, but in not as many layers as I've just recently learned more about layers, in colored pencils and acrylics.

Thank you kindly. Encouraging words. I did this watercolor a good long time back and believe it was mostly alla prima without that many layers as I've only been learning more about layers and doing them in the last 3 years. I think I used browns in the red, did that and other for the shadows. Now I do more underpainting than I did then. Thanks again.

I have to say that I have always wanted take art lessons. I can't draw a stick man but I am going to try.

I should be giving a review here but I think it is more important to say that You are my Inspiration and I am Going For It.

And this is a really cool work of art.

Thank you. So glad you enjoyed. I did the "Shades of Pink in Portrait" my first portrait in acrylic (Most had been done in pastel, oil or oil pastel, colored pencil, etc.). This rose is my first flower and last so far in water color. You areally, really made my day. But with you nice photography you can learn to draw certain things.

Wow! This rose is absolutely beautiful. The detail is flawless, the colours are gorgeous, the placement and the design of the rose itself are perfect. I loved viewing this piece. Amazing job!

One of my favorite flowers to take photos of is the rose, I have planted different colors in many places in the yard, so matter where you go you will see a rose more than likely. I love the red rose especially with the yellow background. I was wondering how you got this to look this way because I imagine it must have taken quite some time to get all the petals and the middle to look like a rose. There is no way that I could get something to look this beautiful. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing. JackJr.

This is just stunning and absolutely gorgeous. I really love the red color you used and I can't believe this is Watercolors. It really looks like a photograph when I first looked at it. I love realism and that's what I do so this to me is just incredible my friend you are extremely talented. This is so amazingly done. Remarkable work.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your encouragement and high rating of "6". Meant a lot to me, especially coming from such a gifted artist as you are. How long does it take you to do some of your colored pencil pieces, one of them if you don't mind sharing? Your work is so outstanding and I know (for me) colored pencil work usually takes a long, long time. Pastel is much or some faster, isn't it? I wish to get back to pastel, years since I've done a very few pastel portraits, except for a recent portrait in oil pastel.

Glena,
how stunning. My Grandmother loves Roses. I always think of her when I see beautiful Roses. She is in a Nursing home now.
I love the vibrant red color in contrast with the black and green background. Beautifully done.

A rose is a rose is a rose...but this seems to be a bit more. There are so many aspects that make it a compelling work. Depth, contrasts, perspective, great job!
