Red Rose in Watercolor

At first glance it definitely is eyecatching. The use of watercolor and the techniques are breathtaking. The shadows really bring the painting together. I would like to add that the contrast is beautiful especially on the darker aspects of the background that is where the eye travels more. In the light areas, the rose petals almost blend in with the background. Overall the rose's structure, position and slight lighting casted are on point.

Thanks, I did this watercolor years back. Why the lower rating? When some have given it a six and never under a five.

There is nothing easy about painting in water color. Granted, I do not know how to do it first-hand, but those who do it and master the craft forever have my deepest admiration and respect! Great Work!

We are all dying to see pics of your environment, as Virginia is in so many American novels we read over here and more of your personal creations, drawings and paintings. Some of us shy away from reviewing family members' photos, as they are bound to be beautiful in the eyes of the beholder.

True. Thanks for the kind words. My son and my novel, Seven Years of Insanity-the Beginning & Beyond, is set in Virginia, in part, the location of the home of the progagonist, Alexandar. The novel is being finalized now. Again, thank you for everything!

You have indeed painted this red rose well Glena, and I know it is not easy at all to do this in water colors. Each petal is done paying such a good attention to details with nice shades and high lights.
Personally I think the background is a bit busy, but I fully appreciate that this is a matter of taste. Your brush work is however excellent.
I also like the format and tight framing, and the centered position of the rose. A truly lovely and well done water color painting, and I wish you luck with the contest.
