This is gorgeous, especially of the animal, reptile or whatever the proper name for it is. How you caught it so skillfully in such detail within where it is and yet see some of the beautiful outside as it appears to be doing. Fine job!

Thank you so very much for your review and grand rating.

Taken at a local zoo in the reptile exhibit. This is a Tuatara lizard from an island off Australia. The exhibit was behind glass and I did not see the lizard. I got on my knees and found that the cave was also behind the glass and the lizard was in there. I shot the photo from behind the cave and captured the lizard in the opening. Certainly a different perspective.

Unexpected angle indeed! I feel as if I am in this cave with this creature, I like this! Well photographed with good focus, this image is sharp and clear, well managed lighting , you have brought out the detail in both the lizard and in the cave wall that surrounds him. I like the view through the opening too, colors and tones appear natural. This is fun to view, it's unique, I can see this as a page in a book for children that teaches them about the little creatures that dwell in caves. Well composed and presented! Best wishes to you in this contest !

Thank you Pat. I like the idea of a children's book. I considered putting in the narrative that we often look out upon the world from the safety of our own self created prison/cave. When we do this we never experience the wonders of life. Life cannot be fully experienced from a safe place that we are afraid to leave. We have to get out there and Experience Life (with all its bumps and bruises). A teachable moment for children. "The lizard that was afraid to go out".

Thank you again Pat ~ Steve

I don't now where you took this photo, but it really look likes the animal is in its own environment. I especially like how lovely the light is falling on it, and also all the fine textures you have brought out in the cave walls.

The photo is sharp showing such clear and well defined details in the animal, and the exposure is perfect.

The cropping is very good, and the animal has got a fine placement within the frame. I think this is a great looking and well taken photo Steve, and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.

LOL. Thank you VO for the Fabulous review and over the top rating. I have no doubt that you will get a repeat win if you enter the contest. I know you will take one of your cool flowers, cut a hole in the back part and shoot from the inside out. Lots of potential there. And you heard it here first! Thank you again VO ~ FS

Ya. Sharing a cave with this ol' boy. I'm getting him fattened up so that he will make a fine meal (shhh mums the word).

Wow. Thank's so much Ed. I got this shot at a reptile house at a zoo. I got on the floor and discovered the rear of the burrow was covered with glass. The Tuatara happened to be at the entrance looking out. It made for a cool perspective. Thank you Ed for your review and great rating ~ Steve

Thanks a lot Fred. This Tuatara was in a reptile house at a zoo. Fortunately when I got almost on the floor I discovered that the back of the burrow was covered with glass. Fortunately the lizard was looking out at the time. Thank you for the encouraging review and Great rating ~ Steve

    Hey Sean,

Yes this is a Tuatara. The reptile exhibit was se up so that if I got on the floor I had a cool shot from behind the reptile and the little cave it lived in. Thanks my friend for your review ~ Steve

A wonderful photo that is also a bit surrealist looking, I thought it might be a digital composition. The focus and colors are superb and the angle is definitely unexpected! Well done and best luck for the contest!
