It is beautiful. I love the sunflower, but the background is a bit busy for me. I think a solid, black background would have really made the flower pop right off the page. I didn't take points off for it because it is my opinion.

Thanks. That was like the background in the photograph my photographer friend gave me so I drew it too. Good suggestion about the background being black. Thanks for that also.

You have used such lovely shades of yellow in this sunflower, and I especially like all the fine textures you have brought out. I do however find the background a bit distracting, and think a softer one with less details would have worked better.
I also like the way you have made the petals dance, as if it is blowing in the wind. It is also fine details to be seen in the petals, and your brush work is bold.
The format and tight framing is working well, and the flower is nicely centered. All together I think this is a charming and well done painting Glena, and I wish you luck with the contest.

The flower is very nicely done. When I think of pastels I think of chalk. What do you mean "painting with pastels"? I might keep the leaves on the tree green. For some reason the people is distracting to me.. I like the angle and tree branches..

Thank you. I don't have people. They are as you indicate tree branches, one from larger. I think I may have used some oil pastels. I did this from a friend photographer's giving me photograph years ago as I saw it. I have lately done a portrait of my brother and sister-in-law in oil pastels, incl. Sennilier's oil pastels I think; I know I used them some in the head of Christ return in the clouds with water soluble oils. I wish to get to using pan and pencil pastel if able. Now doing more acrylic.

Thank you, kind artist friend. I drew and painted with pastel then entered into photoshop to resize and type my initials there, make sure all was smooth enough. Thanks so much again for yor kind comments. I'm working on one in colored pencil as I can. Will really take a long time.
