Good capture from these very quick little fellows. Delightful birds but hard to photograph. It could have been better if there were not so many distractions in the frame .

    Ellir,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this tiny Goldcrest perched for a couple of seconds on among the Ivy on the fence at a distance of 5.5 metres away from where I was sitting. I saw movement pointed the camera & clicked. To say I was surprised to see what I'd captured would be an inderstatment.

Hi Susan,
This is a wonderful nature photo and the small Goldcrest bird caught among the branches is well done with nice depth to show him and his perch in a pleasing way. I really like the narrow frame you have added and the excellent information provided. Great work here! Jodi ~

The commentary is so interesting and that you could capture the smallest breeding bird species is amazing. However, just as you stated that it runs in between the branches hurriedly, and the branch in front of it, it being near the same color makes the work too buy and takes away a little. But it is still nice and your frame and lettering adds to it.

    Glena,
Thanks a million for your review on Ireland's smallest bird flitting in & out of the Ivy covered fence, staying still for only one or two seconds.

The Goldcrest is slightly out of focus. There is a branch in front of him which is throwing off the focal points. This is a busy image with so many branches. I decided to give you my honest opinion.

    Nik,
Thanks a Million for your complementary review on this tiny Goldcrest. They are also found in England in Scotland & Wales favouring Pine Forests but are also found in Gardens. They live in Insects & Invertebrates. Their numbers are swollen in winter by migrants from Scandinavia to get away from the cold winters.

This is a cute little birdie Susan. Nice mix of colours, he does camouflage well. I have taken half a star of because your clear focus isn't your focal point. My eyes are drawn to the leaves in the corner. Its a hard shot to get with the branches in the way. Beautiful composition. Thanks for sharing

    Tracy,
Thanks for taking the time to review this picture of the Goldcrest...these stay still for a milli second . I only saw movement in the Ivy pointed the camera & clicked...I was surprised to see the Goldcrest when I zoomed in afterwards.

Patience Persistence and Practice - Sooner or later this little darling is going to pose at just the right moment just long enough for you to focus and shoot. Considering all that was working against you this shot ain't bad. True the focus is soft but I can clearly see some of the head coloration.

You probably know this already but I'll mention it anyway - 1.4 or 2 times Tele-Converter. Nothing beats a good long lens but you need to mortgage the house in order to get one. Tele-Converters are relatively inexpensive new and in the used market (Amazon) can be had for 1/4 of their original price. Caveat - this lens increases focal length and decreases shutter speed.

Putting the techno babble aside I have to ask myself how does this shot make me feel - Happy! ... Bob P B-))

    Bob,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this tiny Goldcrest. It was taken through the Patio door at a distance of 5.5 metres at full x30 Zoom using my Panasonic Lumix TZ80 Compact camera set on IA (Intelligent Auto)
I used to have a Olympus SLR Film Camera & 3 exchangeable lens but I only took it out when I intended to take photos as it was VERY heavy. With my present camera I have it on my belt all the time when I'm out. I can't afford a good quality DSLR
I realise I can't achieve the same results with my Compact camera BUT I seldom miss an opportunity to try.

You have captured this to immediately show the tiny size of the gold crest these surroundings do well to show the bird as compared to the leaves on the tree. I can see it's yellow stripe on its head.
Well composed and presented, your notes are interesting m informative and appreciated!

Cute bird, reminds me of our Oh Canada bird, which has a different name but because he sings Oh Canadadada, we tend to call it the Oh Canada bird, lol, ours has a bit of yellow under the beak as well as a crest, the smallest birds are usually hard to see lol

    Lise,
Thanks a million for your complementary review on this tiny Goldcrest. At first I thought it was a Wren when O caught sight of it upright tail, I aimed the camera in it's direction & clicked. I was more than happy to see it was a Goldcrest when I saw the golden flash on it's crest.
I'm hoping to get more shots of it beside the river Dodder.
