What a fine imagination and better still you can bring it to canvas in your colourful style. I can see the cliffs of your echoing cove and a patch of sky blue pink lightening the scene and drawing the viewer in to enjoy. Your palette work is quite dynamic and has impact in the textured strokes. There is a feeling of space even though well covered I like this impressionistic abstract style you demonstrate.

You are welcome. Just a curiosity question... acrylic with palette knife on paper... what kind of paper do you use? I started my artistic endeavours with cheap quality materials much to my regret and now focusing on better supplies. I havent tried paletting on paper yet.

I recommend a heavy weight cotton paper. I prime it with a color so the colors do not sink in and stain. Then you can do a wash and see how the colors interact. I don't mix colors on a palette, I am right out of the tube, unless I want to create an opaque effect, then I mix in another color, but that is rare. Check out some of my other paintings and see some of the effects. The best advice I can give you is use quality paper and paints. Also use a palette knife to apply and remove paint. As you play with the paint you will create different effects that become pleasing and then your style will emerge. Remember there are no rules, there are journeys. All the best to you and your new avenue. Feel free to ask and I will answer. Ray G.

Thank you. So much useful info there. I had a short in road with pallet knives and oils a few years back on canvas but oils take too long to dry when I travel. Has the cotton paper a special name or supplier? I havent seen any

I have tried painting acrylic on paper, but am new to this form as I only just started painting in Acrylic two or so years ago, and am developing its use step by step, the place where I used to use acrylics, Jesus Centre in Sheffield has closed down so I have stopped for the moment though I had just started painting acrylic at home. Yes, yours is a fascinating presentation.

Holy Echo Cove Ray! We are drawn in by the beautiful harmony of the colors and the many faces we can find in the rocks. I could spend some time counting how many I can find.
Great entry with a clever creative ebb and flow of colors and abstract subjects.
Well done ;)

I like the surreal appearance of your painting. I almost hear the melodies of the floating water and the beautiful music of the wind. The vivid colors are attractive. Your bolt use of the palette knife is intriguing. The artwork is excellent composed and framed. The composition pleases the eyes and the equilibrium of the viewers.

I find this piece of art interesting, it puts my mind at work . I am not sure if it was intended by the artist , but I can see faces on those rocks. I think I numbered about seven. I see one man with his mouth open , at the right side of the image. Please tell me if that is only in my imagination or not. It is beautifully created . Good luck in the contest!

Ellir, thank you for the observation and review. You found me out. I feel it is important to draw the viewer in and introduce him or her to additional mysteries in my work. Gestures and self portraits sometime appear and I leave them into add interest, enjoyment and intrigue. Thank you for seeing.

This is a great entry for the I Can Almost Hear It contest.

The colors are eye catching and I like the abstract look and feel.

The textures add a nice dimension to the work. Very well done.

I wish you all the best in the judging.

Wow Ray, that is so beautiful artwork. I love the colors of the canyon and such nice contrasting simple sky.
The technique you are using shows a texture on the cliffs and the landscape. The eco in the canyon must be wonderful, singing a song would be so much fun.
Thank you for sharing and the best of luck in the contest.

This is very fun indeed and again reminds me of Latin America, but this time a shot of one of the island coves in the Sea of Cortez through rainbow Lenses! My eccentric paternal parent left me on such and island from age 13 to 16 in the Sea of Cortez -- long story... No rainbow lenses then!

Thank you for a fine review Daphne. You probably learned a lot on that island.
reply by Daphne Oberon on 21-Jan-2022
Yes I surely did, about survival, nature, earthquakes and especially the pleasure of escaping extremist parents! My legend with the mainland natives became known as "The Horsewoman of Cerralvo". My father left me with farm animals in a very difficult situation. First with my hypochondriac mother who did not last long, and then with a 9 year old boy I looked after for two years. (I was there on Cerralvo from age 13 to 16). We all nearly died of thirst and one horse did die that I had to roast and bury in stony ground as it died not far from the mineral water well. Another horse, a mare with a foal that I thought had been dead for hours since the animal was stiff and had no breath, seemed to have some miracle happen to it as it miraculously returned to life when I expressed outrage at "The Powers that Be, lol." I just completed (I think) a terribly difficult memoir about my later time with my parents in a cult they started first in Mexico and then in Central America. Much of this time was spent in the 4,000 foot Guatemalan rain forest. I would rather have been writing about my time on the otherwise uninhabited island, as this was more my own personal story, but events in Central America pressed me to focus there, again to clarify misinformation. I am celebrating the completion of that particular opus by pausing here on FAR, but will have to get back to a film script of that Guatemala period nightmare, then more happily hopefully I will complete the island memoir, Doomsday Cowgirl, lol... Your art and photo make you appear to be a thoughtful type. Do you like to read? New readers who have no former prejudices or opinions are really what I am looking for, who hopefully have the fortitude to endure the Guatemalan epic, which i guess its really a thriller as well... If you are interested, feel free to speak up. My over 500 page Guatemala memoir is entitled Prison in the Clouds, the true story, lol... should you be interested let me know your email.
