A beautiful picture of the Northern Flicker the sunlight highlighting it's beautiful patterned plumage while sparkling in his eye. Beautiful composition framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Thank you so much Susan. I posted this sometime ago and one of the reviewers pointed out that this a "Yellow Stripe Flicker" and in his home area they have the "Blue Stripe" variety. Learn something new each day. thanks again ... Bob

I like the way he is posed here with his head up , he is well focused, this image is clear, exposure is correct, colors and tones appear natural, well shown face and beak, nice clear eye!

You definitely made the most of the encounter and came away with a gorgeous capture in spite of the erratic movement of the Flicker! Great that you were able to keep up and get this lovely shot!!! He's probably wondering why you were watching him and not searching in the grass :)) You did an excellent job of picking up on those colors and patterns. Very beautiful bird and capture !

A very nice shot. They come in two varieties in my yard where they are mostly on the ground where they eat ants. This is a "yellow shafted flicker". Note the feather shaft below the wing. There are also "red shafted flickers".

This is really a nice capture of this flicker. The underside of him adbn the long beak, with the black tear under his eye are so nice. The grasses are nice, except the one in the left top is not as vibrant, like some of the ground/less vibrant showing through. But this is his habitat I am sure and you did a fine job capturing both.

A nice picture as normally birds are not on the ground, so you got a special moment in a wonderful position as your angle and closeup is excellent, and the bird is concentrated on something in front which again is special - a nice natural presentation with an harmonious content, well reacted and well presented, xoxo
