I really like the close and personal approach and how well you have captured the Pelican's eye. I have a feeling it was well aware of you taking its photo. I also like a lot the lovely feathers in the foreground, and how lovely the light is falling on the bird's head.
The focus is spot on and sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in the feathers of the bird. The exposure is perfect.
I also like the very tight cropping and the placement of the bird within the frame. I think this is a truly great looking and well taken photo Eileen, and with an excellent DOF.

Eileen, this is a fine shot. He is resting his head on his back, he has a contented look about him. I guess if I could do that I would have that look too.The coloring is really nice.
