This painting has pleasing vivid colors, and you can obviously paint. But for a still life picture, it is not calming to me. It's not obvious to me that the red covering is a scarf. I keep wondering if the purple splotches are paw prints or chips of amethyst. The cookie isn't obvious to me, either (I only know about it because of your description). I appreciate the skill involved in creating a still life picture because I tried doing it for a photography contest and mine was disastrous! The apples, eggs, and cookies are common kitchen items. Adding the crystal (?) vase seems out of place to me.

I did this painting in oil years ago as my first still life on canvas when I began classes at VA TECH; therefore, it was really a practice painting in a sense. I probably should have entered my first one before ever having taken any art. Sorry such a low rating. I changed some of the items. I may edit and replace with the other before this first one here, in practice.

The shading of your items is alright. I just don't understand on what they are resting. It looks like a sofa cushion. I can see this is your first try in oils. That is why I gave you 4 and a half stars. The painting of your small vase looks like you really tried. The painting of your red apple looks better than the other apples and the eggs.

Thank you, scarletwalking. Yes it was my very first oil painting, first project years ago. They are resting in the folds of the cloth on the surface. Glad I have come so far since then. I think I later took the eggs out, perhaps the cookies. The vase was actually the easiest and I've done more since then. I later realized it needed more room in the bowl so I brought the yellow apple down to 1/2. Thanks for your help. Means a lot. I still draw better than I paint especially years ago. I have drawn and colored so much more.

Very well done. I can appreciate this artistic work as I have recently taken classes in oil painting for the first time. Not as easy as true artists make it seem.

Great colors and the glass vase is so well done. The shapes and sheens on the apples is very well done.

A great entry for the contest and I wish you all the best in the contest ~ Steve

Your painting is intriguing. The objects are looking like a snake served for teatime. The reflections at the cookie jar are especial interesting. The abstract design of the red cloth at the background emphasizes the still life nicely. The artwork is well composed and framed. The composition is balanced.

Thank you, artist friend, Cleo. Interesting comments regarding "like a snake served for teatime." I see that somewhat now. Isn't it amazing how we see different things and yet are helpful to one another, especially artists like you.

Considering this is your first still life I am in awe! the fruit looks good enough to eat, and painting glass is tough but you handled it well. It all looks great nestled in the folds of the scarf.

Very nicely done.

An interesting entry into the contest showing the vibrant colored background reflected through the vase which is my favorite part. Not sure about the eggs and cookie doesn't quite fit to me. The apples look good and are well placed.

Thank you, artist friend. It was my first still life in oils on canvas. I made little changes a little later. Again, appreciate your reviewing.

This is an interesting entry for the contest, it s the vase that stands out here for me! It is impressive the way you show the clear glass and it's texture. The apples , cookies and eggs are well rendered and I think the red silk scarf makes a nice background for these objects.
Very well rendered, arranged and presented! Best wishes to you in this contest!

Love the red blanket that the objects are sitting on. Especially like how you handled the glass vase which I know isn't easy. Little confused as to what the object on the right in the shallow bowl. Apples look great. Nice painting
