This piece is a stunning likeness of Mr. Bogart. Even when I saw the thumbnail pop up I immediately knew who it was. The shading and highlights are perfectly placed but not quite sure what he's holding in his hand. But otherwise, just beautifully done!

Well I immediately knew who this was, but I think your figure is a tad handsomer than the actor really was. An artist's welcome prerogative... Bogart's face was a bit more gaunt and severe... A really fine work! Thanks for sharing!

I recognized Humphrey Bogart straight away when I looked at the thumbnail, and you have done a fantastic job portraying him. I especially like the way you have used the light, and also the nicely textured background.
The portrait is done paying a very good attention to details, and your brush work is excellent.
Perhaps you should have had a tad more negative space at the top, but I still think the composition is working well. Indeed a great looking and well done oil painting James.

I love the photo that you rendered. You have done a fine job on bogarts face and signature hat and trench coat. The black mass under his chin and to the left of the lapel, was suppose to be the shadow of the hat on the back drop, I found that distracting and that heavy shadowing against a backdrop was the photographic style at the time, I think it is not necessary. The cigarette is a nice touch cause that was the times. It is held between the index and middle fingers. Practice your hands, doing studies will help. These things were minor deviations and the strength of the over all rendering prevails. Nicely done. Very impressive, this could be your signature piece with minor adjustments. Ray

I think its the eyes and eyebrows that really brought out Bogey's face for me. Love the stance too! All the details in the image make this really stand out!
