You have pictured so well this giant, and I especially like the close and personal approach, and how well you have captured the eyes. I also like the way the light is falling on the Hippo, and how well the textures of the skin are brought at.
The photo is sharp and it is clear and well defined details to be seen in every part of the animal, and the exposure is perfect.
I also like the tight cropping and the placement of the Hippo within the frame. I think this a great looking and well taken photo with a very good DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.

You certainly captured a real close up of this hippo. So alive in the water with its nice swirls and rather nice colors in pale blues and greens. The background expresses its habitat well also.
