This is a really cool drawing! It is very comic book -esqu.
I can imagine seeing this face in a close up cell (box) in a comic book. Definitely a surprised expression. Very well done!

You have done an excellent job of capturing a surprised look in the eyes! The rest of the face is totally unnecessary as the eyes tell the story.

Good luck in the competition!

You have a very scared or shocked look here. Very expressive.

I feel like the eyes don't match. The left is slightly larger and I feel they are not lined correctly. The left eye is more effective to me. The right eye is lacking the details that the left eye has.

However I really like this expressive look you managed to get with line drawing. Nicely done.

    Corby,

lets see, first off, thank you for your critique of my drawing.
To answer your concerns, the reason the eyes are slightly different in size is that the head is at an angle/tilt, like you are not looking at the face straight on. That's my explanation for the difference in the eyes, their size, details, etc.
    Thank again for the comments.
    Have good day.
    Cheers,
    Lucien

very well drawn. A look of surprise, probably looking a burgler at home! I find it more a terror filled surprise. You have expressed yourself well with few lines. Well done!

I don't know about surprised but shocked for sure! You have done a wonderful job of portraying emotion with this minimalist artwork! The eyes have great definition with realistic shape. I like it, thanks for sharing and best wishes for the contest!

You have given nice shape to the nose. The shape of the eyes does show fear nicely. The reflections suggest he or she is afraid, there is much emotion. With a close up like this I think it's important to make things balanced. The shading on the nose suggests we are looking at her/him straight on, but the angle of the eyes contradicts that. It feels like my eyes are being pulled to the left because that eye is darker and a little larger. I can see the edge of the nostril on the right which suggests to me there is more to see. Try balancing the light and straightening your image/crop, it will make a stronger first impression this way. All the best to you in the contest

Wide open eyes do show surprise and fright too. Throw in the brows and it would cinch the deal. Showing emotions is not that easy. the best of luck in the contest. Ray

Actually, my first reaction was terror and fear. The wide set eyes and enlarged pupils remind me of a horror movie tight scene. The look gives me no element of surprise. The surprise look to me would have the eyes raising up and downward and less squinting. The face would have a different open feel. That is my take on the scene.

This is an interesting drawing. I see the surprise in the look of those eyes. I might be wrong, but to me it looks as if the surprise is mixed with fair. It seems to me that the person sees something he/she dos not want to see. The white shapes at the left of both eyes look to me like distorted tears. The tight panorama framing emphasizes the expression of the eyes. The drawing is well composed and framed. The composition is balanced.
