Congratulations on your win! This is so well deserved. An absolutely stunning photo. The ominous sky gives a beautiful backdrop, to what one might consider a messy foreground. But that "mess" has such an array of colours and detail. I love it!

I have had to learn a new set of mental guides when I review an HDR composite image. Early on I found I could not transpose my standards for DSLR images over HDR.

Of the HDR images I have seen recently this one ranks very high in my estimation. The overall image projects a number of possible story lines.

The camera settings for the anchor image were spot on because the overall image shows a nice even light distribution.

High drama with the dark sky, juxtaposed by the dying sun light on the capstan - Marvelous.

I hope to get the chance to review more of your work ... Bob

    Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for wonderful review.

I'm glad you're coming round to HDRs. I do understand your dislike of some, they can sometimes be garish. They're fun to do though as they are unpredictable, and when they work well you get that real sense of achievement.

I haven't posted any others yet, but I will at some point.

    Many thanks again.

Lovely! Your shot shows excellent low key colors with beautiful clarity and focus. The depth created by the massive dark clouds is impressive. Excellent technique showing us the rich scene. A great entry to the contest, best wishes!

I really like this seaside scene, and you have pictured it so well. The dramatic looking sky and the shiny water in the background looks great, but it is the colorful foreground with all the ropes doing this photo more than anything.

The photo is very sharp and it is indeed clear and well defined details to be seen in all the foreground items. The colors are crisp and clear, and the exposure is spot on.

The HDR treatment has worked wonders for this photo, and the format and framing is perfect. It is also a very good balance in the composition. I think this is a great looking and well taken photo Charlotte, and with an excellent DOF. I wish you luck with the contest.

Charlotte,
A beautiful & atmospheric quayside scene with piles of ropes & Lobster pots piled up on the quay. The blue sky beyond the the storm clouds overhead reflected on the glistening surface of the bay the hillside rising up on the right with a Lighthouse on the top frame, Beautiful composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so much Brian for your review and a million thanks for the 6 stars.
Northumberland is a very long haul from Suffolk, but we?ll worth it when you get there! When/if you go, try to make it between April and July as that?s when the 55,000 pairs of puffins breed on the nearby islands, it?s an incredible site!

Wow! Thank you SO much for the 6 stars! I'm honored! And also for your lovely review of course! :-)
And as for that dark cloudy sky, that cloud sat over our boat for the entire day, while everything else in the distance was in bright sunshine! Ha ha I just couldn't believe it, especially as I wanted the sunshine for my sea photos!
