I really like your shot, especially the composition which is pleasing to the eye. I see fine definition with good focus and the bokeh style background is lovely. My only suggestion would be this - instead of adjusting contrasts with a black and white photo - use your split tone tool. This enables you to saturate your highlights as well as shadows separately and does wonders for over exposed areas. I think this is a great entry to the contest and I thank you for sharing! Best wishes!

Thanks for your suggestion. I?ll see if my program has a split tone tool. If it does, I?ll play around with it. Good suggestion.

This photo of Pelicans looks really great in black and white. I especially like the fine distinctions between light and dark, and also how well the birds are standing out from the background.

The photo is sharp showing clear and well defined details in both birds, but the whites on the left one are a bit blown out and with loss of details

The rule of thirds is a good guide line, but in this photo I think it would be almost better if both birds were showing. I do however appreciate that this is a matter of taste.

All together this is a lovely and well taken photo with an excellent DOF, and I wish you luck with the contest.
