Very good use of the rule of thirds, it works well.
The tight crop works well too, as does changing it to black and white.
Although many B&W photos need extra brightness and contrast to make them pop, do be careful not to 'burn out' the whites. This has happened a little on the central pelican's head and wing. Try experimenting with curves instead, you may be able to achieve the same effect, but retain the detail in the whites.
A good shot, well seen and well captured.

And by curves, you mean? I appreciate your suggestions, and I?ll experiment. I use Corel Paintshop Pro. Thanks so much.

A nicely composed photo of white birds against the black background. I like how the birds are off center in the photo. Very sharp focus. A very good black and white photo. Good luck in the contest.

To my old eyes 'The Rule of Thirds' is the least important aspect of this very well composed B&W nature take. I am not sure how you applied this rule to this take.

What I see as the critical factor for success is White Balance Control. When white is half the image, white detail is easily blown out. Not in this shot however. There are only two inconsequential patches of blown out white. Because its the strong light of the sun there was nothing that could be done to correct it. Beyond that the overall feather detail is excellent.

Further evidence of good white balance is in the visible details of the eye - superb. But what's even better is the crisp and un haloed feather spikes on the back of the head.

I've found the rule of thirds to be the guide for sea, city, or landscapes and not so much for tight nature shots like you have so beautifully produced.

Just for grins and giggles try setting your camera to B&W mode. I think you will find it rewarding. Just remember to reset your camera when your done ... Bob

You offered great advice, thank you. So Rule pof Thirds is best with landscapes and flowers?

I think so. Have a look at some of the 'scapes' on this site and mentally see if you can divide by 3, the segments don't have to be equal

The use of B/W is very appropriate for this scene. The lighting and the clarity are spot on. The pose is so cool and looks like they are auditioning for your shot. The lighting on the background water feature shows up nicely as horizontal stripes that add a lot of interest to the scene.

I'd actually give you a six, but unfortunately I am out. This is a great shot capturing a story-telling drama with these dramatic looking birds! Well done! Thanks for sharing!

A good looking image posted here into the competition! Your fine and classical composition offers us an enjoyable view of that pair of beautiful birds. Textures, detail and tones are good. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Well done and good luck!

At first look I thought what a nice black and white photography and composition of these fowls. I still think so since the animals have a lot of white and the background has a lot of black. I am not sure about your rule of thirds here unless the two Love Birds take up two thirds and the other third is on the other side. Best wishes in the contest.

Thanks a lot. And yes, I need to work on the Rule of Thirds concept.

Thanks a lot. Yah it is neat. You just drove inside the park to see the animals. A few spots you have to walk, as in the wolf den but 90% of it is drive
