That's a great picture. Black and white suits the subject matter well.
The way you seemed to capture that exchange between the two is priceless if not defined. They're busy. We know that. You seemed to catch thatoment of encouragement between father and son. I love it. Congratulations.

A lovely, professionally photographed storytelling photo; great clothes, postures, and for once we don't have fat modern cowboys! This pair look, and I am sure are, authentic! My admiration!

It was my luck that this duo was staging right in front of our seats at the rail. I knew I had to take this shot. I will be back at the rodeo in two seeks and I hope I can track down the father and ask if he would like as copy of this shot. Thank you so much for the kind comments and support.

Thank you so much for the kind comments and interest in this post. I started in 4H photography in the 5th grade and got a blue ribbon at the Country Fair. I was hooked on taking photos. My first camera was a Brownie Hawkeye box camera. I have had a renewed interest in B/W and I am happy that this shot was so well received. Gary

Black and white photography is so evocative especially when it is as well done as this piece is.

Excellent choice in lens. The Sigma line up is known for their very large sweet spot. No fall off around the perimeter. You have captured a very poignant moment between father and son - Kudos.

Keeping the view on the riders and not so much the horse lends a fine air for story telling.

The expression of the father tells the whole story - that is the essence of great journalistic photography.

I wish I had a six left in the bank, this one deserves it ... Bob

Firstly congratulations on your placement in the black and white contest, I don't know how this one slipped through my eagle eye when you first posted it, but at least I still have a chance to tell you what a great shot it is now!
I particularly like the interaction between father and son and the tight crop. Your tones are good and the subjects are beautifully sharp with enough dof for us to be able to ignore the background, while leaving enough detail to get an idea of the surroundings.

Maybe, it is a box somewhere that has not been unpacked in decades. We moved this house 40 years ago.

This is a fine human study photography. This is a wonderful shot of the flower. You have framed it well. Light and shadows and sharpness are very effective in creating a lovely capture. Good luck!

A good looking image posted here into the competition! Your fine, full and appropriate composition offers us an enjoyable view of that father/son team riding into action. Exposure and sharpness are fine. Well done and good luck!

This black and white photo captures a moment of bonding between a father and son at a rodeo. The contrast between the black and white adds depth and texture to the image, creating a timeless feel. The strong composition with them in the center creates a dynamic scene. The emotion in the expressions of the two figures is palpable, making the photo both poignant and powerful. Congrats !

Gary, excellent capture here of a father and son, team members in a calf roping competition. I just love the excitement of a rodeo. My wife and I went to a rodeo out at Jackson Hole and had a blast. Very talented people doing very risky things but so much fun. The best of luck in the competition. Ray

Gary, It has that old time western movie style and Black and White is all you need. Nice presentation. Ray
