I don't know how I missed this! It's hard to belive the man is 96 years old. I might have guessed 70, but not any older. I love the wonderful dignity of this man that you captured. Your visit with him must have been very special! I can see why it touched the souls of the reviewers here! Congratulations on your win. You so deserved it! :o) Nancy

What a great shot!
This lovely older gentleman looks lost in thought. The Black and White really works well here. The dark plain backdrop is perfect for no distractions! Nice Winning shot! Congrats!

This black and white portrait of an old Zafimaniry man is a good representation of the traditional way of life in Madagascar. The technical aspects of the photo are well executed, with nice tonal range and contrast, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality. The man's clothing, posture serve to enhance the photo's story and evoke a sense of cultural heritage and tradition. The photo's story is what truly sets it apart. The man depicted is the chief of one of the Zafimaniry villages and is 96 years old. 96 years old !!! This portrait captures the essence of traditional Zafimaniry life and offers a unique glimpse into a fascinating way of life that is vastly different from our own. The technical aspects and story combine to create a timeless piece of photography that will resonate with viewers for generations to come.
Did I say too much ? :)) Congrats!

This is a beautiful study of this man you met. He doesn't look that great age: your capture angle gives is a very nice relaxed image and offset by his arm leaning against a wood 'table perhaps. Your edits have worked well and produced an interesting and well balanced image. I enjoyed your notes too I think notes a big part of this site for reviewing and these were well written and interesting

This would have been a great entry into the Portrait Contest, also a good entry into Black and White.
Love the contemplation captured on the Chief's face. He has definitely aged well. The black and white works well and the overall impact is great.

    Thank you so much Mary.
Yes I had wondered if I should save it for the portrait contest, oh well. :-)

This is a beautiful picture of this gentleman who looks lost in thought. The picture is well lit and mostly in focus, ie his face is in focus but his hands are a bit blurry. Did you try to also take one in portrait mode so that we could see the fire perhaps or his entire figure?
Good luck with it

Thank you so much for your review - unfortunately in these sort of situations you get one shot at it, I was invited for coffee, the photo was a complete bonus. Also the houses are so dark (I couldn?t see anything when I first entered!) and I wasn?t given the time to fiddle around with the settings, so it ended up being taken at 1/25th sec - ha ha I was over the moon that any of it was in focus at all! Lol
    Thank you again.

First class portrait and one i would love to have taken,i enjoyed your story and what layed behind this one,i enjoy going out to events/places and taking photos of people, sometimes candid some posed and you only have to ask people sometimes its also good to e-mail them photos you have taken,i love that although he has posed for this it is an informal photo and the black and white approach really brings out the best of him, well good one this...Brian

Wow Brian thank you so much! I?m honoured.
You?d love Madagascar then, as strangers literally come up to you in the street and ask that you to take their photo! It?s great! Very few have email, so if I know (or find out) where they live, I tend to get the photos printed for them while I?m there.
Thanks again for your wonderful review and rating.
