I like the composition and idea behind the image but not sure it depicts the theme of contest as this could be taken day or night.
The focus and dof are good with natural color for the flames.

Well with or without mama this is an excellent photo, fires are not the easiest to photograph, and you've done an amazing job! Well done and very best wishes for the contest!

Ha you?ve given yourself away with your reply! Funny how people?s wording can identify them just as easily as a photo! When I was reviewing it I tried to guess who had posted it!
    You?re very welcome.

The elements of this photo brings back memories of our trips to the rural small villages in Honduras. The small cook fires where regulated by pushing and pulling the burning sticks under the clay cooking pots. The capture of the sharp details of the fire and coals are terrific. Your tight crop is also outstanding as it gives us the up-close look and feel of the event. My only comment would be to re-work your narrative a bit. It seems to be a bit awkward. Just my opinion.

thanks Gary for the good comments, but i was trying to make a point about learning from mistakes or just learning as you move along,i know like i said if i had taken that shot now it would have been better and different.

Outstanding shot of the black pot on the rack over the bright yellows and oranges in the fire and the various colors, including in the ashes, those grays, and small logs are captured so well. Yes, having the mama cooking would add interest, but what you did is just fine. Best wishes in the contest.

What's in the pot?

For a low light take this one is very well done. Lots of contrast and color harmony is consistent with the theme of this scene.

The DOF is excellent for the subject matter and there is strong detail across the entire image.

The color range and lighting of the take are well balanced and contribute nicely to the overall eye appeal of your composition.

I think camera angle is the critical consideration here. If the camera was shooting down from slightly above and from the right a little more. There maybe would be more emphasis on what's in the pot as opposed to the focus on the fire - perhaps?

Noe the less this is a worthy entry and good luck... Bob
