What a fascinating shot - I'm pleased you told us what it is, I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise!
You've cut out the background extremely well, not and easy feat with those spines!
Focus and dof are spot on, and you've placed it very well within the frame.

This is rather outstanding to enter the contest. The cucumber is cool, up close I can see little cucumber hairs/ridges where you cut so well. The dark background makes it pop. Best wishes in the contest.
