Jodi,
You made my day! I wish we had these tiny Jewels on wings in Ireland!
Beautiful picture of this Black chinned Hummingbird in flight as he approaches your feeder his beautiful iridescent blue throat is glowing in the light that's also sparkling in his eye & shines on his long beak. He stands on in sharp contrast from his blurred grey background. Artistic composition, framing & lighting taken with superb camera techniques & sharp focus.

Isn't he handsome; I'm a bit envious as we only have ruby throats, I would love to have a few different species at my feeders. Can't imagine having about 40! Gorgeous capture capturing the purple iridescence on his throat; you captured a very well focused photo of Mr. black chin!

imagine you hear this faint lil voice "excuse me mam but can you spare a cup of honey?" lol..cute capture. the angle of the shot of this hummingbird in flight is great. the capture of the light is great. the clarity is great. the presentation is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. good eye and great job overall.

Lovely hummingbird indeed. The black chin colored bright blue is my first time seeing this area. The position you caught Mr. Black Chin in and your process for the whole work are both interesting.

Hi Jodi, I just put a hummingbird feeder up for the first time on Mother's Day! I hope I get some visitors like this one. You captured a lovely hummer. Love that bright blue on the throat. Your focus is great and so is the lighting. Love how all those little chest feathers are in perfect focus! Very nice capture! Thanks for sharing! :o) Nancy

Well good photo jodi and extreme dof, what shutterspeed did you use and of course the wings are blurred which think adds to knowing that the birds in flight,your are lucky though to see and take photos of these...Brian

    Thank you Brian! I had a 1/640 shutter speed - used through an internal Sports Mode setting to better capture the movement.
    I shoot these birds with a telephoto lens set between 175 and 200 mm but I stand only 4-5 feet away. This causes the bird to appear larger on film and blurres the background nicely.

    your welcome and thanks for the info i would have used a faster shutterspeed

an excellent stop action Jodi of this hummingbird in flight with the blurred wings but sharp focus on head and body; I like the blue color around his neck;

A good looking nature image posted here! Reckon that bird should be called blue throat? Your fine, full and appropriate composition captures us an enjoyable in flight moment. Textures, colours and tones are good. Exposure and sharpness are good. Well taken!
