An interesting photograph, and an even more interesting narrative that is very informative regarding the harvest of cranberries. A good overview of the process. Good luck in the contest.

That is a lot of cranberries. Do they grow like on the water or do they place them there to clean them in a way? I remember seeing something that they have spider lurking in them sometimes. Excellent picture, thank you for sharing!

Hi Devonte, the berries grow on ground hugging plants. The cranberry growers actually flood the bog then someone drives a thrasher thru it to knock the berries off the plants. The. berries float. Here the wind has blown them to one side of the flooded bog. The rest of the info is in my notes. As the berries go up the conveyor belt there is a guy with a hose washing them off. Hope that helps explaining the cranberry gathering process. Thanks for the great review! :o) Nancy

Nice capture and interesting narrative for this image. I really like the graceful curve between the water and cranberies. Nice and sharp image.
I am familiar with the cranberry bogs of Wisconsin. It is really a niche product overall but I understand they can make pretty good money at it.

Hi allan, I didn't know they had cranberry bogs in Wisconsin. You learn something new every day! I took this shot just to capture that curve. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the great review! :o) Nancy

This is the only thing I miss from living in New England. The bogs were within walking distance of my home. Where did you take this? It's a great shot, with excellent DOF, great color, sharp focus and adequate exposure. Good luck in the contest.

Hi Aimee, I always thought all the cranberry bogs were on Cape Cod, but this one was in Carlisle Mass. It was small, but a lot of fun to see. Allanoak told me he knew of some in Wisconsin. I didn't know they had any there. Lucky you, to be able to have the bogs in walking distance. Sad to say, I don't think this bog is active anymore. Thank you for the lovely review and contest wishes! Glad you enjoyed! :o) Nancy

You're welcome. I lived in Northeast Middleboro in farm country. The bogs were all around us. There are cranberries in New Jersey too. Many years ago, Ocean Spray moved their bottling facility from my town to New Jersey.

Thank you for sharing your story about the cranberries. I always wondered how they were harvested. Composition shades, colors, and angle captures this moment in time perfectly. Thank you for sharing.

i would be the comedian who would be walking by saying to the guys standing there " hey i just saw a dog poop in the water" and i would keep walking. of course i would have to watch off in the distance while the guys are searching for it. evil grin..lol. nice capture. the angle of the shot of this pond to soak cranberries is great. the capture of the light is great. the clarity is great. the presentation is balanced and eye appealing to the viewer. good eye and great job overall.

Why am I not surprised you would tell the guys a dog pooped in the water! Lol Ducks and geese might add some too. They land in the water and swim around. Don't know if they have a pooper scooper for that! Lol They do spray and wash the berries as they come up the conveyor belt. Glad you enjoyed the shot! Thanks for the great and comical review!

Hi Brian, The yellow you see In the upper left are floatable hoses with open ends. Two guys go out, each holding one end. They circle the floating cranberries and then drag them to the truck where they go up a conveyor belt into the truck. The picture does have a little on what's going on in the harvest. Sorry you didn't think this was worthy of 5 stars, but appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for reviewing! :o) Nancy

you are welcome, sometimes photos cry out for human interest and although they are in this think it just needed a bit more

If this had been about men working I would have gone with your suggestion, but this was an entry for the letter C contest so I really wanted to show a multitude of cranberries. Not Mas, just wanted you to know where my head was. Could be I should have titled this differently. :o)
-
no it was fine maybe i was trying to see what i would have done and even with humans it still would have qualified, guess we all have different perspectives on things
-
I think we all imagine the image we're viewing the way we'd do it. I totally understand. Different pathways always open our eyes and that's not a bad thing at all! :o)

What a beautiful capture of the harvesting of cranberries! The way you framed it feels intentional and balanced, and the combination of light, shadows, and colours brings an almost painterly quality to the composition. Good luck!
