FanArtReview wrote to Denise B: Halloween Haunts finished third in the contest "Halloween Art"

Denise B: Recently, within the last year I have returned to my roots and I have been painting in oils again. After participating in a week long Plein air event where I was able to view artist working in oils in a very modern way, I became interested again after 40 years! Watching their methods and learning about the new materials and techniques all I can say is ?I am back?.

Denise B: I?m always amazed at which paintings get the most notice. This is not a favorite of mine but has been mentioned by other artists when they try to get me to enter it into contest. Now it?s won 3rd place in the green contest. I?m so thrilled.

Denise B: As I look back on my history with FAR I am amazed at the confidence I have gained through my interactions with other artist.

Denise B: My life has become crazy busy in the art world. For that, I am very thankful but it is time to spend some me time on my artwork .

Denise B: Last night I attended my first gallery show in another town where a piece of my artwork was displayed as part of a show. It was the opening and for the first time I was an artist among others meeting people and mingling. Discussing the craft. Techniques and ideas. It was wonderful and everyone I met were so open and wonderful. Not one was stuffy or full of it. What a great experience.
karen zima: Congratulations on your artist of the month and recognition of your talent. It is well deserved. I admire your style and your artwork. Also, congratulations on your first gallery show. -

Susiezuanich: That is wonderful. I too have always loved Art and been told I should pursue it. But....life kept me from doing that. Marriage, children, career. Now I am retired and I started teaching myself to watercolor. I LOVE IT!I really want to get more involved. That is why I joined Fan Art. I love your work. come to my page and see mine. -

Denise B: I tend to get bogged down and I run into artist block. Can?t decise what the paint kind of a thing. So, I ask my FB art followers to send me photos from their travel pictures that were favorites. My fall show has a theme of travel. Wow, have I been impressed by the great photos I?ve recieved. When I decided to join in a 30 min challenge painting for 5 days- we were told to keep it small and simple. So, I?ve been paining 5 x 7 canvases of those travel photos. As I begun to place them side by side I thought about how they reminded me of the old fashioned picture postcards and an idea has been born. I?m thinking my whole show may be on these postcard sized canvases and I may use that theme.. all I know is they are selling like hot cakes.
seshadri_sreenivasan: Please accept my hearty congrats! It is exciting to know about the 30-min challenge contest! Would you be going in for watercolours? They are tough to handle but offer spontaneity! You can do it on 300 gsm thick watercolour paper. This takes a lot of beating! All the best! -

Denise B: What will I leave behind? I spent the past week trying to reconcile the deaths of 3 friends. Two died in a horrible accident while the other from an long, difficult, disease. As an artist, my life finds itself interwoven within my art pieces. This week was no different. Sadness, weeping, joy of the friendship all were part of my paintings this week along with the realization that I too shall depart this place and what will be said about my artwork? Will my viewers get my meaning? Should all artwork be about a legacy or tradition? So many questions and not many answers. What I do know is that through my artwork, I am able to find peace. A sense of satisfaction that my life will have been for a purpose. Life as my artwork will be continued in one way or another....
Life is but a dream.: Denise, I resonate with your words, they spoke directly to my heart. -

Denise Buff is an artist from Forsyth, Ga. Born into a family with deep Southern roots she enjoys capturing that lifestyle using combined painting techniques ranging from Monet to Pollock celebrating both historic and modern artistic representations. Denise studied with a private instructor before attending Georgia College as an art major. Today, She continues to study with other artists, has her own studio, teaches both adults and teens, and is the Founder and President of The 1823 Artisan Guild & Gallery in Forsyth. Recently her work was included in the Winter Issue of Studio Visit Magazine. Denise enjoys adding her own artistic style that she describes as Abstract Impressionism while paying tribute to an era of front porches, swings, catching fireflies in the summer, hunting for kittens, picking grandma?s flowers, and fishing in the pond.

Each of my paintings tells a story. As I paint; enveloped by the scene, the character, or the structure, that moment in time becomes contained within my piece. Like a great book that can?t be put down, I find it?s almost impossible to stop until finished. Each piece captures a part of my dreams, imagination, and life. Living by the mantra, ?What will YOU leave behind?? I use acrylics, watercolor and oils to share my thoughts and memories. Life can be messy, tangled, and layered. My art is textured and structured using a color palette that offers a sense of tranquility in the turbulence of life. This is why I create. Enjoy.
