The second C.H. I remember well, and visit when I can, however the first one, I was younger and have one or two very strong memories from, but cannot remember where. American Zone, as I can remember a GI bringing bread buns for Xmas. Also food shortages, we were put for an afternoon nap afterwards. I would not eat my breadbun as I thought once I had eaten it, I would not have a bread bun. I went to sleep curled on my stomach - next thing I remember is a nun hitting me, her eyes red behind her round, steel rimmed glasses, repeating: that was bread, that was bread. Just hitting me none stop saying 'bread' all the while as she was weeping. I remember her face clearly. I had wet myself whilst asleep and had a mass of stodgy crumbs under me. My mother swore later that I was dry when she left me in Germany. I have several very strong memories but no continuous ones, just flashes. It was somewhere near the Black Forest. No one remembers. I loved my nuns as did my children.
