there is a story to this, as with all my paintings, it comes from my life (hence I am so upset at the stealing and copying of them- don't these people have lives of their own to paint?) I had gone to Pakistan at the invitation of some pupils, also advised to by Buck. palace who are in this project from this fringe weirdo pseudo medical group- fed up with the Health Ministry pressure to avoid admitting negligence etc- had a rocky start with a taxi driver who ran into a petrol station, said fill her up or I dump you, then charged me again then charged my friend who owned the Royal Hotel - anyway put that behind me, my goood friends, Irish lady married to a Pakistani guy lent me enough money to go up to Lahore, but it was big Eid, so I had to fly not train as I had wanted- so my friend's son too me to the Airport, I was amazed to see amongst the heavy traffic, women weaving in and out, begging at windows for money. As it was big Eid, they were getting quite a lot actually- In fact, on reflection, none of them looked starved, I saw (back then) no one who looked starved, what ever their situation, - but I draw comparisons with post war eastern Europe, which was a different kettle of fish altogether- and cannot be compared with.
