Every tea time, hence the dull lighting, the police horses clop round our area. Immigrants' children love them as they clatter through the streets. As a former teacher, I am glad, as many of the city children never see an animal. Immigrants are on the whole scared of dogs and cats /YES!!/ so do not have the benefit of pets as do the indigenous. Even at the Refugee Camp, we had a cat when we came over! I have to admit, I love horses, so am so happy to see such beautiful creatures in the city's poorest area. What their use as law-guarding is, I am not concerned with, having seen endless Black Marias: instances? Dragging Kossovans out of their houses to be returned; a little, fat African man sitting watching tv being busted by a whole army of full-war gear police, dog and vans /returned two days later to his home, of which the police had left the door open. Personally, I think they should worry more about real crime and less about the personal habits of individuals, but ofcourse the Government is not paid taxes from those personal habits so it is an economic thing. But the police horses are magnificent creatures and everyone loves them. EVERYONE! they cause wonder in all who see them.
