Flowing Water Contest Entry
the Trent is a big river in my home county of Lincolnshire and has a special feature, a powerful tide which washes up regularly from the sea.
The Trent Aegir, also known as the Eagre, is a tidal bore on the River Trent. At certain times of the year, it is possible to see a bore of up to five feet high.
The Aegir occurs when a high spring tide meets the downstream flow of the river forcing it back and causing a wave to flow upstream.
The sky in the background is an indication of location, as Scunthorpe has the label of : the skies reflect our labours.. they glow red and at certain times of the week, black soot is emitted from the salt and pepper pots as we call them, sometimes red soot and sometimes yellow soot and occasionally, no soot! Housewives in Scunthorpe used to wash according to which soot day it was!
