Some of the GI's had never known such freedom as after they occupied Europe. Britain was different, a black GI was hanged in 1948 for having an affair with an english woman, she evidently lied about the affair because her husband was a British officer and found out, / common in India too, were the same happened many times during the Empire with enlgish wife-teasers--re BBC report./-- but in occupied Europe, the GI was king, with money and food to spare at the time of starvation.
