Infact the only elephants I have ever seen besides zoos, was one Sunday morning when I was teaching in Delhi, I went to take a folder of my poetry to our extended Family, Sonia Gandhi. A mummy elephant, with half a tree in her trunk, was wandering up the road and it appeared that it was brushing the streets with the part-tree, and her baby wandered beside her. I was enchanted. In the event, Mrs Gandhi was out that Sunday morning but the guards took my folder to give to her.. It was something I will never forget! Oh yes, I did at times find that as I walked along, as well as cows, Elephants would pass me by. It was one of the things which amazed me during my stay there, the number of animals living quite happily with people in a city!!
